clutch replacement

ive seen a car for sale it needs a clutch its done 50k any ideas on how much it will be and if its standard practice to change the flywheel as well the dealer has it booked in and reckons it will be about 2500 quid does that sound about right including the flywheel

Cant comment on price for a RS4 but have you also tried AMD or QST for a price on a new clutch? £2500 seems like a lot of money to me for that...

Seems a bit iffy!
I got my local dealer to qoute for a clutch,the price was £1000 fitted.

I'm not aware of it being standard practise to change the flywheel at the same time....the only time people seem to do this is if they want a lightened flywheel fitting (which has its advantages and disadvantages)

I thought 1k was about the norm for the clutch replacement.

Mine was done recently, and was slipping quite badly, did not need a new flywheel though and total was £987.33 inc vat and labour, the parts were £313.00 plus vat. Done by local dealer.

Dave's right, the only time you would need to change the flywheel is if you wanted to change it to a lighter one, the fly wheel is is not a wear and tear item. Cant see how they can warrant another £1500 on top of a clutch just for a fly wheel!!!!

£1000-£1100 for a clutch fitted at a dealer. Think I need one soon :thumbsdown:

Depends who has been driving the car before you tbh RS4 flywheels can be damaged but more often than not it's just a straightforward clutch change.

hmmm im getting the impression that 1k is more like it.maybe the main agent has given him a worst case price eh hes sourced a set of hard wheels for it to make it blemish free audi wouldnt change the origonal soft wheels as they had slight marks on them does this sound about right?the car is a y plate 53k full vag hist full leather avus silver newish tyres 1 owner no warranty currently on it,hes a trader but from home i think so no real comeback after the purchase i was valueing it at 28k+ and treating it more as a private sale what do you think?do you think im realistic,there are others out for sale for more money but they are still for sale if you know what i mean

Hrm...a few things sound a few warning bells..

a) Hard wheels....be SURE that they are genuine RS4 hard wheels - there's a lot of replicas out there. Audi will replace soft wheels if they're bent.
b) If the wheels are seriously scuffed, I'd be worried that the previous owner didn't take care of the car as well as they could...if they scuff wheels badly, god knows what else they did.
c) No warranty...I'd factor this into the price somehow...1k ish to get a warranty. (If the turbos fail you will regret not having a warranty !)
d) Check brake discs /pads....not cheap if they need replacing soon.
e) It should have had major 40k service...make sure it did.

How much is he after for the car?

If the car is out of warranty,wont the dealer charge you a fee for inspection work associated with the new warranty you will need for the car??
Might he be banding about the £2500 figure to try and cover the cost of the wheels? A hard compound alloy from Audi is £500 + vat.

hes after more like 30k for it.i know hes sourced the wheels second hand off ebay.the wheels are hardly marked but its the only blemish's on the car and he wants to make it mint.hes having the clutch and service done prior to sale at his expense,it had all its services done on time and has had belts done,maybe they wont replace the wheels as they arent bent and know hes a trader trying to mint it at audis expense.already asked about the usual stuff like discs he says minimal wear.i think taking it into the local audi garage for an inspection prior to purchase would be a wise move,i know my cars but they know what to look for on these rare beasts eh

Dont think you will need to pay any more than 30k for a good clean standard example these days.
