3rd Party Warranty with WarrantyWise

Post by AutoUnionist » Mon Sep 13, 2004 9:49 pm

Just received a quote from WarrantyWise for 4yrs cover for my 2000 S4 for £950. There is a £6000 ceiling on any one claim and an unlimited no. of claims can be made.

This company appears to be based in Clitheroe, Lancs and, according to the phone rep, they have been trading for 6 years. The policy will apparently be underwritten by AXA.

They give a pretty detailed list of items covered but could be hiding some significant omissions in the detail. Not being a technical automotive man, this makes me somewhat nervous.

Read in a separate posting that WarrantyWise are the same as Warranty Holdings. Can anyone confirm this? There are two separate entries for these at Companies House with WH correctly noted to be in administration. Of concern, however, is that the entry for WarrantyWise states that it is a "non-trading company", although its status is active. And contrary to what the rep said, the company was incorporated in Jan 2000. No previous trading names are listed. Could they have been trading before being incorporated? Really need an accountant or legal man to decipher this...surely there must be a few such RS4-driving men in our ranks?

If a reputable company like AXA underwrite the policy and WarrantyWise were to go tits up, wouldn't the policy itself still remain valid?

Hi,

I bought a 1 year policy from Warrantywise for my S4 in January 2004. The actual policy was
WHA holdings and all claims went through them. The underwriters I think are NIG. As you have
found, WHA are in receivership however the policy I have is still valid.

In terms of claiming bear in mind the following:

If you go to an Audi dealer they won't pay the full labour rate plus you will have to foot
the bill then try and claim it back from the policy. If you go to one of their approved
garages (which I did for MAF as I thought they couldn't possibly f*** that up) they pay
direct. However, it's up to you whether you would let one these places do a turbo swap for
example.

You need to be a Lawyer in order to understand whats covered and what isn't. I was unable to
claim for my power steering line (wasn't given a reason) or upper sump gaskets because "gaskets
are only covered if the engine has to be removed. If it doesn't then it's not covered" and other
classics. So far, I hav successfully managed to claim for the MAF only.

Claiming is an absolute nightmare - stress + uncertainty.

My advice is to:

1) Get an Audi warranty - they cost more but you won't have the hassle claiming or paying.
2) Put someinthg like a £100 quid into a 'slush fund' per month. This is what I will start doing.
The advantage of this method is that you get to keep the money if nothing goes wrong.
