My beloved Nogaro Blue S4 saloon has been stolen. Reg S693RJS
Some <beep> broke into my house and make load of damage, (while i was asleep) moved my girlfriends car and took my S4. Gutted.
If you get offered walk away its stolen.
Any way I have to decide what to get next, maybe a sensible Audi Diesel
Reckon the insurance company are going to give me a crap offer.
What do people here think it is worth about?

feel for you Dude....if somebody nicked my car and i caught them....well lets say they wouldnt do it again
but insurance companies want to take you to the cleaners.... I was looking for quite some time before I brought my car and I can tell you that about 11-11.5K would be what I was looking to pay for a clean example... hope it goes your way!

sometimes you can get more from the insurance companies if you can prove that the car was in good condition by showing them some recent photos of your car.
Sorry to hear about your car but hey its only a bit of metal, as long as you and the gf are safe. i've heard all sorts of horrible stories about break ins for car keys. I suppose you are lucky they found the car keys and didnt come wake you and the gf up.

how good is the factory alarm and locks. Have there been many cars broken into and stollen? or do they need to steal the keys to get into the cars?
Dont tell how its done just if its possible and common?

Same thing happened to a friend and his S8 - thieves broke in to his house and stole the keys from the fruit bowl. His car was then used "Ronin style" in an armed robbery within a few hours. When he woke up and realised the car was gone he called the police who had recovered the car following a high speed chase. The car was damaged during the chase and the insurance company refused to pay out on the basis that he couldnt prove that the scratches, dents were caused by the thieves and were not pre-existing. Insurance companies eh? I think its best to leave your keys somewhere reasonably obvious as if someone really wants to nick your car wouldnt you rather they just came in and took the keys and didnt beat you up in the process!

most immobilisers nowadays are quite effective, hence the need for theives to break into your house and steal your keys. Apart from towing it away there is little they can do to move the car without the key.
As has been mentioned its probably best to keep them near the entrance but not blantently on display so someone can see them by looking thru your letter box (and hook them with a long stick which is becomming quite common these days).
