Different Tyre Tread Patterns/Same Axle ?

Post by S4 OXON » Mon May 24, 2004 8:56 pm

Hello

Yesterday I was swapping around my tyres (not for square ones  ) for some with tread at the front and the spare has the most tread but different tread pattern to the other four.

Any views on whether I should use this spare or not?

This spare tyre is also directional, if I was to get a puncture could I use it going the wrong way? To enable me to get home. Also how quick could I drive on it?

The 4 tyres are michen pliot sx, and the spare is a michen pliot sport which i would like to run on the back as it has more tread on it than one of the outher 4. Will this have any bad effects on the quattro ? more grip on one side than outher ? and what will ESP have to say about it ? as this is my first S4 :jump: and do not want to make a expensive mistake :bash:

I'm pretty sure it's not recommended to run different tread patterns on the same axle - probably for the reasons you've already suggested.

I'm not sure about the spare/directional tyre question, although I think it'd be okay as a desperate 'get you home' type thing....might be easier to carry a can of tyre foam puncture repair though! ??
