Security and Audi Alarms (GPS/Tracker etc etc)

Post by Tomson » Mon Apr 19, 2004 9:02 am

Hi All,

I am looking to get some kind of tracking device fitted to the RS4. However on discussion with my local alarm centre they said it was near impossible to change the security on the RS - the only way they have got it to work in the past is to wire the Clifford Alram (or similar) to the key hidden somewhere in the car, which is not ideal.

Now I allready own a Textlink Limited, Protex V4. This clever little device uses a Pay as you go mobile that texts you once a month to give you an update on your car, and also texts you if the alarm is activated. It also tells you if and when the battery is disconnected and most importantly you can trace your catron their website should it get stolen - SHOULD IT GET STOLEN (www.text-link.co.uk)

To connect it up all you need to do is locate the Alarms Batt -VE, whatever the Feck that is. So does anyone know enough about the audi alarm to know if I can connect this up to it.

If not what other trackers/tracers do people use. I have read on a post regarding the latest aggrevateed theft here
http://www.rs246.com/index.php?name=PNp ... ic&t=45978

James has a box that " enables me to cut the fuel supply by text.which means they wont get far away and cant do too much damage."

How cool is that, they steal your keys, quick text to your car and the fuel supply is stopped.....Nice.

So i suppose what I am asking is..

What tracking device, or security gizmo's do people have ?
Where is the Audi Alarms BAT -VE output ?

Please feel free to PM me if you feel you don't want to post publicly.

Thanks,

Tom

I do not agree that installing a clifford means you need to leave a key in the car, total bollox. However if you are looking to run Intellistart then that is a different matter

Why can you not add Clifford as well as Audi security? Answer - no reason

As for the tracker thing this is an insurance company requirement, have you thought about trakm8? Seems a good one

Cheers

Chaps, Alarms/electronics are my thing.

Firstly though you need to decide what you are trying to do, I went down this route once thinking that I would make my car undrivable, and although people sometimes dispute this, I firmly beleive it is possible. My S4 was like this, without the keys, I'm confident it would take even an experienced theif a couple hours to bypass all the security, and all the time the alarm would be going off, and the system phoning me.

Of course if someone has a flat bed or a means of towing the car then nothing electrical can stop this.

But, and I'll put it in caps because it's so important: YOU REALLY NEED TO DECIDE WHETHER THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT, IF SOMEONE COMES INTO YOUR HOUSE WITH GUNS, KNIVES, BATS ETC... I'D JUST WANT THEM GONE, NOT WANT TO AGRAVATE THEM WHEN THE CAR DIDN'T START ETC.....

However, I'll be at Windsor this month, if anyone wants to talk security we can do it there, but my thinking is just stick on a tracker, alarm it enough to stop the average theif. But if someone points a gun or other weopon at me, they can have the bloody car, I certainly want them out of the way as soon as possible

I Agree mate, but would be almost to sweet to watch them on-line and then disable the car via text message outside the police station...... :piss:

I bought and installed a safe at the weeken to put the keys in overnight, after installing I realised just how much more battered I amnd my family would be after I pretended I did'nt know where the keys were, and then eventually properly beaten led them to the safe where all of the other valuable stuiff is....DOH !!!! :bash:

I just want to add some very clever device that can either let me immobolise or track the car, or the police... :sekret:

Personally, I had a tracker (all singing and dancing version) On my Corrado. Once I pushed it for ages and received no call from Tracker which was supposed to be part of the deal - Illeagl movement etc etc - so not convinced with anything but the basic tracker. It also seems that there are more itteligent and modern systems becoming available with the current GPS vibe going on.

Finally do you know where the Batt -VE oin the audi system is mate ?

Tom,

the safe is still a good idea mate.
Just think where you currently leave your keys whenyou go on holidays, or the car is at home on its own with the keys indoors.

We have one very well hidden safe for the spare keys and valuables, and I intend to fit another
in an easier to get at location for day to day use.

As for movement of your C, I believe the trackers only activate once entry or jacking of the car
occurs. A chap I know used to run a business fitting these to new cars for dealers (Ferrari, Porsche, etc). His car was fitted with one as a demo car. We drove the car less than a mile before his mobile was ringing. I was very impressed.

Cheers,
John.

i was looking to get the intellistart added to my clifford thats fitted to my s4. I was told that the key needs to be in the ignition before the audi alarm system will allow you to start the car which is the reason i did not get it fitted. It seemed like a reasonable explanation. Its wrong to say you need the key in the car with the cifford (wo intellistart) though as i have a relatively new clifford in my car and i certainly dont need to leave the key in the car, wouldnt have bought the alarm if i had to. Besides if your car ever got stolen and you left the keys in your car your insurance co wouldnt pay out.

So to get over it, you break a key, and fit the chip beside the key barrel, so eliminating the audi immobiliser, then you rely on the 2 or more clifford ones, so your car remains secure

It is not impossible

I believe Clifford have now released a new box for the Intellistart so you don't have to fit the transponder by the ignition barrel. (Although I think you do still have to have it in the car with the Clifford box)
