Sat Nav Plus compatibility

Post by Dippy » Thu Feb 12, 2004 12:32 am

Now that I've seen the prices of Sat Nav plus units on German E-bay, I'm really tempted. Trouble is most of them are 4B0 units from A6s and not 8D0 units from A4s. However when I look at the photos, the facia of the A6 units really looks the same as the A4.

Can anyone confirm if they are the same or different?

I suspect that they are different, but only insofar as the shape/size of the console is different, and the side panels of the HU are designed to fit closely to the side cheeks on the console.

I had sat nav fitted later both into my rs4 and into my wife's allroad. They had different part numbers but look the same. Better check it out.

Dippy, just hold on for an A4 one. I was looking a while back on German eBay and there was a good selection of A4 and A6 units. That way you can be sure. The final prices were around £400 if that is of any help.

Cheers

Hi Dippy,

I asked TV whiz the same question and he strongly recommended sourcing the correct unit so as to avoid cosmetic fitting problems later (trimming/bending plastic etc.).

I'm watching the German eBay auctions too but I'm look for an 8E0 model for a B6. I've asked some staff at a customer of mine in Munich to help with translation, procurement and shipping to keep costs down. I agree that German eBay tends to be cheaper than UK eBay for the same Audi Sat Nav units (200-300 pounds less).

Good Luck

Darren

Cheers Guys. I'm sure now that there is a subtle difference between the A4 and A6 fascia. There's a seller on e-bay offering to provide a spare facia to fit, but I think I will hold out for the correct A4 one.

My German is fine (with a bit of help from an online translator) but getting some of these sellers to respond is another thing. Seems that maybe they're not as willing to deal with foreigners as they imply.

What amazes me is the sheer quantity of Audi stuff on German E-bay compared to the complete absence of stuff on UK E-bay. Maybe there's a business opportunity there...

The new unit on Uk eBay has still not been bid for. Surely that would be a good buy as it's unlikely to be faulty or in bad condition?
Best of luck.

I have my eye on it. However I expect the bids will come...

...as expected it's approaching £700 now, and those on German E-bay usually go for around £400.
