Hi Guys,
Sorry to bore you again but I am still new to the wonderful
world of S4 ownership. Anybody have any comments on the
following items: (My car is a 2000 W reg - facelift)
1) Buzzing coming from centre console - sounds electrical as
it doesn't really change with revs/vibration.
2) Rough idle - doesn't hunt but car bumps and shakes a
little.
3) turbo whine - how loud should this be? - it's quite
noticeable below 2K rpm then fades.
4) clutch engagement - pretty jerky - whats the norm?
Also, a couple of times, when I have nailed it 7K in 1st
changed to 2nd and nailed it the clutch feels like it's
slipping - new clutch required?
5) vibration in shifter - more than I was expecting.
Any other bugbears I should be looking out for?
Am I just expecting too much after upgrading from a humble
Golf MKIV?
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Faults?
Am also a new owner (2000 W facelift too) and have noticed a very slight whistle from the turbos at low revs (particularly when the engine is cold) which goes away very quickly. Is that the sort of noise you are getting? From reading the various posts this seems to be normal turbo spool noise......I hope

Hi Jon,
I get almost all of what you listed on my 98 S. I think nailing it at 7k revs might be a bad idea though, try at about 3.5k revs, I think the excess power just gets burnt by the clutch and difs anyway (unless its snowing, in which case hammer it as much as you can! )
The gearchange is jerky because it is engaging 2 more wheels than normal - I've noticed a lot of the reviewers mentioned this when it was new.
Cheers,
Mike

Re: Faults?
I think nailing it a 7k revs is a bad idea. Peak power is produced at 5,800 - 6,000. After this the power tails off. So there is no point in reving to 7k, you just go slower as a consequence. Also you are stressing components unnecessarily. Try changing up at 6k.
