AMD's Service

Post by Greg_S » Mon Jan 26, 2004 7:03 pm

After the hassle ive had the last few weeks i feel compelled to write about the poor service that i have received from Auto-AMD.

I called them up to order a set of H&R springs for my S2, which is a coupe and they were told that more than a dozen times over the phone. And also suggested a part no which others have fitted to be told that it was a full suspension kit and wasnt the right no.

They found the 'right' no then i had to pay the £30+ postage to have it delivered. On arrival it was plainly obvious they werent for my S2. So i called them up and initially it looked like a simple swap.

Anyway a call back and was told that it would we an extra 145+vat on top of what i had already paid to supply the ones to suit. Not happy with the price i decided i would return them to them.

Having given them a call to arrange for their courier to collect there wrongly sent part i was told it was up to me to send it back to them at my expense and i would be charged a 10% surcharge because I had given them the part no. for the springs which i had NOT!

So in the last three weeks ive had to spend alot of my time dealing with the hassle of a cocked up order from AMD. they eventually realised that they had made the error but still refused to pay for the collection of the parcel so ive taken a 100mile round trip to take them back because im sick of the hassle it has caused me and finally got my money back. And for the priveledge of trying to buy from what i thought was a reputable company im now out of pocket by about £25 in what it has cost me to take them back, and it would have been even more if i had to post them!

Needless to say i wont be buying anything from AMD in the future.

I assume that you have discussed all this with Scott at AmD and that you have thought carefully before naming a reputable company in this manner on a public BBS ?

Well, I hope he has thought about, to be honest Jeff it needs exposing if this the truth, and I have no reason to doubt him. I know everynow and then companies slip up, and I know we are talking about AMD, who so far seem to have a good reputation, but if this had happened to me, I guess I would be a very unhappy bunny too! Greg, if you can put all the relevent details into an email for me and send it to john@thorneymotorsport.co.uk I will look into it for you. It doesn't sound like the normal service AmD like to offer.

Greg has obviously tried to resolve the issues with AMD and hasn't managed to do so to his complete satisfaction. Surely we want to hear about the pros and the cons of different dealers/tuners etc so that we can reach our own decisions on whether to use them ourselves? I think everyone on these forums is old enough and wise enough to consider all the evidence (good and bad) and reach their own conclusions.

I've found Greg to be very helpful. He's a great source of knowledge on the S2/RS2 and he's arranged several meets - including a Rolling Road last December - for the S2 Forum. If he says he's had problems then I believe him and I also believe that he's given AMD every opportunity to rectify the problems.

I'd be fuming too if I ordered a part for a named car, was given a price and then the wrong bits turned up and I was expected to pay more. In those circumstances, where the supplier had ordered the wrong parts, I would expect them to pick up the return courier costs and refund my money in full.

The comments I have put on the board are from my personal experience with them and it is the first time i have bought anything from them. It is not ment as a sweeping statement to say that all of the customers get this quality of serivce but it is what i received. I did try to resolve the issue with them and to start with I did receive a good service but it was when i came to return the goods which they had wrongly supplied i started to have problems.

I'm a bit confused. If AmD are involved in fitting them, then it's up to them to get the right parts. If they are not, then it seems strange to have bought them from AmD. As I see it, AmD are a 'hands-on' tuning company and not a parts distributor (at least it is not their core business).

As I have stated before, whilst I consider the work that AmD do is 1st class, their service is certainly inconsistent. That's why I agree the work up front (I give them a printed statement of my requirements so there's no doubt).
