No more understeer in new RS4 2005

Post by donrs4 » Wed Jan 21, 2004 12:38 am

The FAZ (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) writes in today's edition about a new "Torsendifferential" being developed by Audi that would eliminate the understeer known in the Quattro-driven cars. They speculate that it would be available "in the new RS4 that will however only be presented in 2005". Saying also, that even most Rs4 would be driven on normal roads, not only the racetrack.

Maybe somebody can translate the tecnical descriptions on what this new "wonder thing" will do for us marketing-types...

... and of course I'm looking forward to the comments from our technical experts and driving gurus.

Sounds like a progression of the quattro system of the Gallardo.

I'm not familiar with what has been done to Gallardo, does it have torsen? Was under the impression Lambos use visco / haldex-type front drive.

Anyways, a good guess might be some version of the T3 torsen ?

I'd agree with Jani, AFAIK the Gallardo does not use a torsen.

I'd also agree with the guess at a T-3, this has two benefits: Biased nominal torque split and better packaging which should help bring the engine back (or move the front axle forward), which will help handling.

Lamborghini uses a Viscous Traction System.
In the Gallardo, the central diff is VTS, the rear is a LSD and the front is electronic, like on Audis.
Lamborghini is/was Italian, the GKN ViscoDrive was developed by an Italian team, it is very good.....
Any conclusions drawn are your own

I wrote a letter to the most famous german car magazin, asking them to bring more infos (or any) on the new RS4.
I asked them, if they don't put it ino the magazin to inform me. Let's see what we get!
