EXPLANATION OF SYMBOLS - CHASSIS NUMBER:
A 17 Digit Chassis No. is stamped on the vehicle:
e.g.: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17
...... W V W Z Z Z 1 J Z Y W 0 0 0 0 0 1
The first 6 digits have no meaning, other than to identify the manufacturer. In the example above WVWZZZ indicates a Volkswagen. Audi's start WAU, but RS2's start with the unique WAC indicating the final assembly by Porsche.
The last 11 digits give the shorter form of the chassis number, and it is that which is used when ordering parts etc.
e.g.: 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17
.......8 C - R Z 0 0 0 0 0 1
The 9th digit is indicated by a hyphen. The 11th digit is a hyphen or if necessary the manufacturing plant code. In the case of the RS2 this once again is unique showing the code "Z" indicating the Zuffenhausen Porsche manufacturing plant.
The 10th digit signifies the model year identification:
1994 = R
1995 = S
1996 = T
1997 = V
1998 = W
1999 = X
2000 = Y
2001 = 1
2002 = 2
2003 = 3
Hopefully this will enable you to identify the manufacturing date of your RS2.
