Homepage initial concept [pic] ...

Post by Rob_O » Thu Feb 06, 2003 4:39 am

Here's my suggestion for the top section of the home page. This graphic would occupy the top 400 pixels (could be made smaller I suppose) and any news or features or whatever would go below it (layout yet to be designed).

Feedback welcomed Image

Forgot to apologize for the cars being "LHD". The original photo is actually of RHD models, but I flipped it so the cars appear in the order of the site name (RS2 | 4 | 6). Of course, I then had to switch the badges on each model's grille (and in the reflections) so they didn't *look* reversed.

Hey Rob

Any chance you can resize this for use as a desktop wallpaper

Now that would be cool

If someone can find this press photo in larger resolution (1280x1024 or larger) ... I could probably recreate the RS246 graphic displayed here. Unfortunately, the largest version I could dig up was 800x600 ... which is what you see here (cropped from top to bottom, but still 800 wide).

That would be cool ... and could be done without navigation (maybe the tagline could run across that section).

Another variation.

Not a lot of feedback, so not confident this is what everyone would like to see when they visit the homepage. Image

Looks great Rob. I just wanted to stay out of it as I always seem to put my oar in. Personally I'd prefer it without the menu integrated.

I would put this project on hold until we decided what we are going to do with the site. Wonder how people feel that the site should be.

I was thinking mainly forum based with links to Gallery etc. We can do some pretty cool stuff with linking the entry page to the forum content.

D'oh! When I flipped the image, so the cars were in proper order to reflect the site name, I moved the badges accordingly. I even remember to flip the RS4/6 badges before relocating them on the grille. However, I simply moved the RS2 badge ... but didn't flip it. Ooops.

Will sort that before final version arrives.

Navigation need not be integrated; I could do up a version where the main graphic is cut down some (height-wise) and navigation sits atop it. Basically, I figure the homepage would sit mid-screen and be contained by a main "box" ... similar to how I did Extreme Car Care. This type graphic would occupy the top section and below it would be news/updates, adverts, etc. Could even nest some of the UBB functions like most recent posts and whatnot. Then, if possible with UBB, each page would have a common color scheme [to the homepage] and the header/top/site nav would be similar in overall design [to the homepage]. Forum nav/links/options would be left as they are, since they're integrated with UBB's php.

Eh ... whatever you guys think.

How's this? What you see is a mock screen shot to give you an idea of how the page might look, integrating content in the lower section as it literally appears now (simply for the purposes of visulization).
