R32 vs S3

Post by Riz_RS4 » Sat Nov 15, 2003 10:33 pm

Went today to a VW dealer to look at a Golf R32..... obviously i had high hope`s as its `supposedly a better car` compared to the old dog (S3)...... but i cant seem to see what all the fuss was about...... all credit to the sales rep as he tried very hard to tempt me to make the move to the R32..... first impressions were not what i expected..... cheapy BMW type plasticy leather... not even electric..... standard wheel arches, grill`s, mirror as base models...... and i thought lets here the beast..... he rev`ed it very hard but its wasnt really that loud and nowhere like a M3...... i didnt bother asking him for a test drive and just told him i wouldnt get insured and walked away.

If the car doesnt give me that special feel right from setting eyes on it then im not intrested..... it may out performe and out handle the S3 etc but its noway a classier motor car...... even the front side lower grills where fake.... poo!

There nothing that really sparkles about the R32..... didnt do it for me and am glad to keep my S3 another few years.....

LOL - and where did the S3 come in the best Drivers cars of the year?
You really did yourself an injustice by not driving it Riz - it really is a Drivers car.

(Or are you secretly hankering after a TT? )

Yes but in my books a drivers car can be anything.... a TVR can be a drivers car or a evo for that matter.... what really got to me was there was no sense of `wow` about the R32...... just a Golf with a big engine.

A TT ermmmmm noway!
Ok maybe i was abit harsh but since it didnt make me have the `feel good factor` i didnt bother taking a test drive.

Obviously the car is unique and rare but its not different enough for me.

When I test drove a R32, I pulled up outside the stealers and initial impressions for me were that the R32 really stood out as something special, more than my S3 (parked next to each other), ie it really had the 'wow' factor. The R32 was in blue and my S3 is black. Oh and the r32 IMO sounded the dogs bollocks.

I felt the R32 was a great car, defenitely better to drive than a S3, no question - only problem with it I found was it doesnt 'feel' that fast. Obviously the interior isnt as nice as the S3, but its not exactly shoddy in the r32 either, it has great seats and a great (chunky) steering wheel.
