Camchain timing values

Post by Limited100 » Thu Jan 29, 2026 1:38 am

Last time I had it checked, camchain timing values were 5.0, 0.0. -4.0, 0.0, indicating a fair bit of stretch. It's on 119,000 miles and when checked was around 112,000.

Assuming these should all be 0.0, is engine failure imminent or should I be alright to keep driving it for another year or so before getting the engine out?

It drives fine and I've had it serviced regularly and done 15,000 miles in just over a year, so drives alright apart from a bit of excessive lag.

I just wondered what values those decide to get the chains done immediately at.

If I'm pushing it I may take it off the road for a while to save up for major engine-out work and get a cheap runaround.
C6 RS6 Avant 2009 | Stock turbos | Wagner ICs | BMC filters | Secondary cats removed
Currently an unknown stage 1 map, making 658 bhp 805 NM on a hot day on Tesco 99, laggy but no boost leaks
Will not safely go to stage 2 confirmed by MRC because turbos already at 9x% duty, a mystery - engine out to diagnose
Runs ok, done 10k miles in it in 10 months, perhaps in the next couple of years will refurb turbos etc.
1000 bhp not viable because gearbox upgrade alone is £9k
