Starter/ Generator Failure

Post by mudplugger » Wed Feb 14, 2024 2:39 pm

I bought a new RS6 in 2021 , it has now 32,000 miles on it and have extended the warranty.
Last week a yellow battery warning lamp came on together with a yellow Sport Diff problem, being 2 miles from home I carried on looked in the manual and contacted my dealer, as instructed.
They booked the car in for examination in 3 weeks so I continued to drive the car. On my final journey the Air con stopped working but approaching a motorway junction up hill the battery warning lamp changed to red, the gearbox drive disengaged and the car was electrcally dead. No handbrake, no electric windows could not get out oif the car being on a slope. There was no warning just immediate failure and no drive. It turns out the Starter / Generator had failed to charge the battery so that ran down running all the electronics leaving the car dead. If this had happened on the motorway we could be toast. Considering for the last 100 years when the charging system fails on a car a red light would show, how is that Audi with all its sophistication cannot warrn the driver that the battery is not being charged and the driver has X minutes of driving and needs to find a safe parking zone? This issue is the subject of a $5m Class Action in the USA, when are Audi owners in Europe going to get a fix?
