Carplay Update - for free?

Post by -TheJoker- » Wed Aug 30, 2023 9:35 pm

Just about to pick up my first RS6, a 2016 performance model.
I watch Volkswizard on YouTube, and he did a recent video on VCDS tweaks you could do, and also mentioned a free update to the firmware which gave you carplay for nothing.

Just wondered if anyone else had tried this.
I did a few similar updates sourced from a coder when I had my RS3, which terrified me at the time, but actually made the whole car so much more pleasant to use.
I paid for those, this seems too good to be true...

Also - if anyone can recommend a coding and / or retrofit firm near Aldershot in Hampshire I'd be grateful as I'm looking at getting a few bits added.
Many thanks.

I did the free MMI and mapping update to my 2015 Facelift RS6. It was easy to do and worked perfectly. The update gave me Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and improved a couple of minor things in the MMI. A separate update file then gave me "2022/23" map data for the nav system (only possible after doing the MMI update). That was not much use to me as I just use google maps now that I have Android Auto, but it could be useful at some point, I guess.

Forgot to say: I used the Mr Fix links to do it and it was all free. The only important bit is you need to use a download manager to download the two install files as they take forever if you just download them using your browser. I used a tool that was imaginatively called "Free download Manager"; it worked a treat.

Brilliant, thank you.
Picked the car up yesterday and loving it, getting used to some of the differences between it and the RS3 I had prior to it (biggest annoyance so far being the MMI wheel going the opposite way to the one on the RS3!), and whilst playing around this morning also noticed I already have carplay enabled (bonus!).
I may still try the map upgrade so thank you.
