Spared/staggered tires + max tires sizes

Post by Zagon » Mon May 18, 2020 5:26 pm

Hello Everyone,

I want to add style and grip to my RS6 performance (2017), that is why got an idea to put different width on Front and Rear wheels. :greyrs4:

There is a very interesting set could be like:
- Front: 285/30/R20
- Rear: 325/30/R19

The total height (diameter) of the wheels betweeen fron and rear in 1mm, they are equal.

There are two questions:
1) Do 325 width can be installed on rear axes? Do somebody have such experience?
2) Is it possible to install on front and back wheels with non-equal diameters (height), for example . Front - 285/35/20, Back - 315/30/20?

Thanx in advance!

From an Audi manual - " On vehicles with four wheel drive, all four tyres must always be fitted with tyres of the same type, make and tread pattern, as otherwise the driveline can be damaged by continuous differences in the wheel speeds. The use of tyres with varying degrees of wear will, however, not affect the four wheel drive transmission."

I guess they will always say that but you will definitely upset the steering and control. You would be amazed the difference it makes to the handling between different premium brands. I went from Pirelli P zero to Michelin PS4 and the difference is like night and day. The P Zero's would torque steer under heavy acceleration and suffered terribly from the 'Ackerman effect', the PS4's are a far superior tyre. Just image the difference having odd sizes front to rear would make on a quattro. You could always try some spacers for a bit more width?

I just had a call from Audi, they said that width differences on tire can be in tolerance of only 2mm., on my question WHY SO, they just repeted phrase from the manual.

I also have now a PS4, but for 1000+ HP it is now sufficient for the grip, that why idea become to increase a grip by widening rear wheels and use Toyo R888R for example.

Spacers do not increase a grip I suggest...

It is wounder why different width can affect on transmission, if is only a matter for weight of the wheel it self and more grip on wider wheel :?
