Although it lost, not blown away. Impressive result for the old brute
Rolling I imagine the gap to be even less.

Not sure about £40k unless they have started appreciating in value

Why?

Why not use a new C7 so it’s like for like? What am I missing?

Haha it’s definitely a suspect map.

Most MRC tuned cars see 60 in sub 4 seconds
And 100 in sub 7.

The C6 is owned by one of the dudes and I doubt he was prepared to launch the <beep> out of it for 'work'.

Definitely something wrong with that 0-100mph time and the 1/4 mile with a "mapped" car, even a stock ECU is better than that!!!

Stock mine did a 9.7sec 0-100mph measured on a 10hz V-Box type device and a 1/4 in 12.4 sec @ 124mph
735hp mine did a 7.4sec 0-100mph measured on a 10hz V-Box type device and a 1/4 in 11.2 sec @ 130mph

So in the video there's no way you only add 9mph from 1/4 to 1/2 mile with 630-650hp mapped car - no way at all, that poor guy had best get his car sorted at MRC pronto! :D

On the other hand they can't even get the prices right (£40k RS6!) so who knows how crap Autocars journalism actually is :D

Yeap, now I'd say there are three potential reasons -
  • Driver/Owner - didn't want to "thrash" his car.
  • Car - something seriously wrong with it.
  • Magazine - told the driver to drive it soft for an unknown reason.
Of those I'd say Driver is less likely as most would want to show off what their car can do, Car is a possible but with the car being worse than stock hopefully the driver would feel this (unless he's brand new to RS6?) and finally Magazine why would they, what benefit does beating such an old car do for them?

None of those choices really make me, as a fellow owner, feel good about the article.

Have you watched the whole video Ian?

His facial expression, and hand position on the wheel tells a lot I think

That, and the probable JFA tune :biggrin3:

See, they show him "left-foot brake" launch the car @ 2.30min with both hands on the wheel so at some point he probably was trying so why, when you have the chance to show if off, would you then drive it like an A6 which makes your pride and joy look so poor?

Which makes me think about a broken car or Magazine pressure - "hmmm, it still loses but it looks too close so just back it off a little dude" leading to just a 9 sec increase in the 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile drag result, which just isn't believable for 630+ hp, especially when their own video shows that, at the 1/2 mile point there was only 1sec difference between the cars and not nearly 3 sec that the later figures show (18.1sec vs 20.8sec).

Anyway, unless the dude is a member we'll never get to know what the real story is.

I wonder if there was pressure from Merc and or Porsche...do NOT embarrass our cars. Hence why it’s lost apparently costs £40k????

It all sounds like sour grapes to me.

The issue is probably more about amateur vs professional drivers.
