Parcel Shelf Roller thingy

Post by nf2029 » Fri Jun 23, 2017 3:10 pm

Hi all,

Since picking up my RS4 a month or so ago I have been getting increasing frustrated with the fabric parcel shelf roller. It looks as if it has been quite well worn as the bits which lock in are a little bit battered. It holds in place, but if I hit a speed bump a little too quickly or anything it rolls up the track and blocks my view out of the back. I remember my 2009 S3 had a Sun visor thing on the parcel shelf which always used to pop up and I had to just replace it. I don't really want to replace the whole thing. Has anyone got any suggestions of a fix? I am in the boot quite a lot throwing things in and out so still need to use it but a better form of locking would be better.

Thanks in advance!

Is it the roller shutter that sits immediately behind the rear seats that is at fault, or the left and right runners in the boot that are damaged?

Agree there is not a lot to hold the shutter in place, but worth a look as to whether the ends of the runners are worn or the grooves they sit in.

Crude, but duck tape might sort it?!

I think it is the end of the runners that are damaged, they look pretty beaten up. Does anyone know if just those can be replaced?

I think it is available as a repair set. The part number may be 8K9898661a or 8K9898661a 4PK for a black one. In the part catalog there is clearly listed a removable part on the corners of the cover.

Ahhhhh, nevermind. My auntie and uncle sadly had a 2012 A4 Avant written off, the roller cover was safely in their garage at the time of the accident and hasn't moved since. Whilst they replaced it with the same car (a 2014) they don't need two covers, my auntie has said its up for grabs if required!

The bits which look beaten up seem to be marked as part 52 on that diagram. Thank you. I will head to my local dealer and see what can be done!
