Buying a tuned car

Post by stevo55 » Fri Mar 31, 2017 12:02 pm

What are the thoughts on buying an already tuned car? I've done this before with a BMW M135i and some of the mods weren't to my (or other peoples) tastes which meant at resale time it was problematic (although the cost of those mods had already been paid by the previous owner). Obviously Audi warranty would be black flagged and they could wriggle out of a claim if they can identify the root cause of the fault lying with the tune.
Been looking at this one:
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/ ... -2/6971837

Litchfield Stage 2 so pushing 730 bhp. Doesn't say it has the Milltek just 'sports exhaust' (thought the Milly came with a Stage 2 Litchfield). Spec is great and pretty much bang on plus very low miles for the age of the car. Tune was installed only 4k miles ago.

Thoughts?

Obviously there is a warranty risk. But if you plan on tuning it and risking warranty anyway then you get the tune effectively for free. Just a risk that it has been ragged. But you get that risk with any car.

The car description says "massage / ventilated" front seats. That makes them comfort seats, not "sports". Personally, I love the comfort seats (wish I had specc'ed them) but not everybody's taste...

(The comfort seats offer plenty of lateral support when the side bolsters are fully inflated).

I didn't tune my C6 although I always planned to. Will call the dealer up and see if it's got the Dynamic Pack as I've test driven one on air and it didn't feel as good as the DRC one I drove at Cambridge. Still after a FL but its getting the right spec which is problematic.
Am also finding out that a lot of dealers are shying away from saloons! Apparently Avants sell well and saloons don't. Bit like the C7 I guess which is a massive shame as both C6 and C7 RS saloons are epic cars. Odd.

No C6 Saloon, mine is for sale and have had a few dealers shy away from it as it doesn't sell as quickly as an Avant would (apparently). The RS7 same as well-Audi dealers saying they are really difficult to sell. Only thing I can think of (with the RS7) is some of the negative reviews (Audi RS in 'poor driver feedback' shocker!), but the C6 RS6 Saloon is a bit of a puzzler to be honest. Mines been for sale for a around a month and so far no sale. A dealer was going to take it on for a good price but when he learned it was a saloon he backed away.

No, you said the C6 and C7 RS saloons are epic cars. There is no C7 RS saloon.

My mistake..RS7 4G. Tempted to go for one but not going through all the resale hassle down the road again. C7 RS6 it is.

If you are planning on tuning... I saybuy a tuned one or one on the way to spec you want.
If you want std car, still buy a tuned one and sell the bits!

It's hard to compare. The C6 5ltr V10 was some lump when tuned. For me there was never a road long enough to get the full potential, an amazing beast. My C7 is standard and TBH is more than quick enough low down.
I can see why dealers shy away from a saloon. IMO there are better saloons out there but no better estate car/Avants. It just feels quite cool to drive a family estate that will leave most cars for dead.👍

Sorry didn't actually answer your initial question. A C7 is not the sort of car that is routinely ragged. Most owners will map them, but only for standard road use, more a case of knowing you have 700plus bhp under the bonnet, most of which you can never use, as I found out with my 740bhp C6.
Is a FL the absolute must?
I bought my C7 a couple of months ago non FL but fell in love with colour and spec👍
