Wait over, RS6 is home..

Post by Knobby » Fri Mar 24, 2017 9:52 pm

Picked up this monster today... Took 2 months to find and a long trip this morning to go get it but well worth the wait.

Blown away.. I've come from an A6 C7 TDI 3L V6 Quattro and its a boat compared to the RS6. Don't get me wrong the RS6 is a bus but you can throw it around.

I set out to get a 2014 pre facelift, my A6 was a pre facelift so jumping into a facelift has some nice updated features, the dash, sat nav etc.

My car is Audi connect, any recommendations on getting it live? Sim etc?

Thanks for all the advice while on the hunt!

Congrats - looks stunning and nice colour too. Cleaning I find does become a regular chore, but then I chose White and live in a rural area, so I guess I had it coming.

With regards the SIM card, I buy EE data SIM's from Amazon. I think the one I have is 6 months validity and gives 2GB per month which is plenty enough (unless you are planning on having people connect to the car as a WiFi Hotspot). One word of warning is that the EE SIM cards need to be activated before use and that cannot be done in the RS6 - you need to activate the SIM card in another device (iPhone/iPad for example) then put in the main card. The SIM cards comes as multi-SIM so no issues with size (the RS6 is a full-size SIM slot).

Happy driving, and watch out for Speedo's :)

Nice one. I'll try and pick one up from the shops today to test out. If it's any good I'll look for a longer term solution. My dash cam can upload movement when the cars off but I guess the wifi if off when the cars off?

NP. I am 99% sure the WiFi is off when the ignition is off, but one of the real experts on here may want to confirm. It should not take long to test it out though.

Yes Wi-Fi is off when ignition is off.
But you can register the EE SIM in the car (which is just as well as I don't have any devices that takes full size SIM any more). Put the SIM in the car, then use your phone / iPad to connect to the cars Wi-Fi. Once connected all you need to do is try and open a web page. This will take you to the EE register page. It looks like you need to register with all your details but you don't, just ignore the register section and scroll down to the part that says activate SIM. Job done.

Also, there have Brenda couple of threads recently that discussed the various SIM options. It's worth taking a look to see what best suits you.

I like the sound of Brenda. Shall it goes off with the ignition. No real need in their eyes to leave it on.

No, you'd end up with a flat battery.

The dash cam stays on all the time and never had any problems. Think the batteries are so big these days they last a fair amount of time.

At best, that's a punt and a flat battery would be a complete ball ache.

Radio for wifi and mobile is pretty power hungry.
