Help with wingback seats

Post by Mat20vt » Sat Dec 10, 2016 7:45 pm

Right I have the wingback seats with inflating bolsters on drivers side.
The bolsters partially inflate and then go flat, which is annoying
Is this a common problem and just a dodgy valve?

Hopefully not too much to fix!

Could be either a leaky hose, leaky bag or dodgy valve. Most likely the valve.
Some people have fixed them by sealing around the brass exit nipple but if that doesn't work the valves are about £200 from Audi. 2 per seat; one does the thigh and side bolsters, the other does the lumbar support.

Are they easy to get to and fix yourself?

Changing is a doddle, just unplug the single electrical connection then gently pull the 3 hoses off. Fitting is just the reverse.

To get to them you need to pull the leather away around the edge of the seat back. A trim removal tool or similar will get get you started if there is no bit alreayd coming away, generally easiest at the bottom edge. once you've got a bit out just pull it back (assuming you are sitting in the back)and sort of over. Then you need to remove the seat belt hoops. I recently described this is Iconics B6 RS4 build thread. Then just fold the leather down and the valves are in the seat back, near the bottom.

This is exactly what I'm doing now with my seats. I can give you the part numbers etc that you'll need. The rubber hoses go brittle and need replacing-bear in mind that these seats are nearly 10 years old.

I recently cracked a hose by accident when playing around with the valves. The hose was part of the bag so I had to buy a new bag & hose.

Be great if you could please mate. We're the required parts very expensive?

Pulling the least her away sounds ok, but how easy is it to put back together?

Easier than taking apart, the seat belt hoops just snap back together, and the leather just tucks back into place.

They come as "service items" with a length of hose and a number of connectors-35gbp approx. You can also buy the inflatable lungs separately at about 65gbp. (Sorry I don't have pound sign on my keyboard).

4D0862225M for the kit.

It just arrived today and sitting in my Shop. I'll take some pics for you.

Iconic,

Can you tell me exactly what you get as part of the kit 4D0862225M please?

I've just replaced one of my valves. The bags (both sets of bolsters controlled by the one valve) stay inflated much better than before but they still loose some air. I swapped to a known good valve and the symptoms remain so it's not the new valve. Strangely the leak seems intermittent. I suspect the black tubes are slightly loose at the valve connector.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.
