Power from 560 to 700 hp

Post by Tadass910 » Tue Nov 15, 2016 11:14 pm

Ok its time to think for some more power, i saw Abt does power management from 560 to 700 easy with reprogramming cars ecu plus adding Abt mufflers and you get 700 hp and 880 mm not bad, my question how cars engine handles such numbers and how long it can last without breaking something inside?

Really hard to say, i doubt anyone owns a remapped car for more than a few years. From what i've heard it is the gearbox rather than the engine that suffers. Ultimately you are taking your car beyond OEM tolerances and you should expect things to wear out quicker. It may be the second, third, or fourth owner that suffers the consequences though!

I've heard no reliability woes myself. Compared to cheap and tempting remaps, the ABT is a tuning box which is MUCH more expensive but - as far as i'm aware - it does mean you shouldn't have any worries when it comes to taking your car to an Audi dealer.

I tried a 700bhp tweaked car and the difference over the 600bhp PE model was small for 99.9% of any given day. I was also expecting an improvement in drivability but Dynamic/Inidividual mode fixes that. I totally respect that people want to tweak their own car to have fun and often did the same on previous cars including a GTR33v but this seems like a small gain for the warranty implications etc.

I still don't quite understand going over 600 bhp. Unless you are attending an arrive'n'drive drag race or want to replace a tuned out GT-R I cannot find anywhere to use the 600bhp of the PE model for more than a brief moment.

Also, my PE dyno'd with 888NM of torque as standard when overboosting.

has anyone gone from a non-PE C7 to a PE? I wonder if the difference in extra power is noticeable?

This will come in handy when going past 750.

I have historically modified just about every car i've owned but i seriously don't see the need for more power; it still impresses me every time i'm in the car. It's not just the overall speed but in some circumstances the car gives the impression is struggling to deal with the power; it's something that makes me smile but not make me think "Oh, but it could do with another 100bhp!".

Most importantly though, it is the power vs risk. There are many 'tuner' type cars out there that have a big following. If the worst was to happen, you could quite easily rebuild both quickly and relatively cheaply. The lump in the RS6 has not recieved much attention by the aftermarket community and, let's face it, it's a complicated, expensive engine. I do alright for myself but i am unwilling to take the risk when the car is already silly quick.

And another thing... for me, modifying in a serious way is a sign that you are getting bored and it's time to move on.

I wonder if the difference in power / torque on the Performance is enough to satisfy most drivers? I don't recall any Performance owners on here wanting more power so maybe the extra torque makes all the difference. It doesn't appear that there is a big difference in power between the 2, certainly a lot less than the published figures indicate.

I can't imagine there's a great deal of difference in torque either.

Too much power is barely enough.

Just back from Vienna where I saw a number of RS6s and 7s - all running very loud exhausts ( + chips judging by flames) and terrorising the rush hour traffic with full bore bursts for 2 secs. Sounded good but daft in a city centre. And it seems the wanker sign is universal across Europe ;)

Have to disagree with that, the difference between a standard RS6 (560-600) and a modified one (700+) is night and day.

No doubts about it, the standard car is great, very powerful, very quick and its planted. It's unlikely to catch you out unless you are driving like an idiot.

A modified RS6 takes you into the ''Holy sh*t" this is scary category, it's actually quite dangerous and it will very easily catch you out if you are not careful. I think my RS6 is too powerful for the roads just now with the cold weather as it will not accelerate properly in 1st and 2nd gear without trying to throw me off the road. Torque steer is crazy and the back end will come out on you where you need to left lock/right lock to get it to straighten up again. The traction light kicks in frequently to try help you out a little but it's a completely different animal with 700+. I've had mine tuned for a year now and it still has the potential to scare the living sh*t out of me, even more so over the last month as temperatures have plummeted.

In a standard car, you can launch it with torque brake boost 9 times out of 10 and get away cleanly. In a modified car, it's a huge pain in the ass to get it away cleanly using torque brake boost. I would say 1 in every 10 you will manage the challenge and even then you have to part throttle feather and come off a little. I was at a drag racing event a few weeks ago and just could not get it off the line using launch so I had to just roll it off the line from pretty much 1500rpm. It was very frustrating but I still managed a 10.9 rolling it off the line with no launch.

Additional to all of that, an RS6 needs an aftermarket exhaust system in my opinion. It's a completely different animal, the pops, the bangs, the crackles, the noise difference and throttle response again is night and day compared to standard.

550-600hp probably is the sweet spot for every day driveability though, 700hp+ is very enjoyable especially when it hooks up but it's scary and it's a pain in the a*s to control.

This man speaks sense

Sounds like my car :bigblink:

Agree with the roads lately...in the summer I was blipping about with no issues at all...since temps have dropped and roads being salted I've had few scary moments.

I see your point Leo but that was also my point.

I had my GTR33v from 280 to 550-580bhp and it was still asking for more but I felt it impractical for any road use above this.

For the RS6 I figure 600 to 700 is not a great deal of difference. >750-800 is a different ball game. I guess I should have been clearer. A 15% boost is not going to change the world, a 25%+ boost is going to be noticeable as well as be at the point of the drivetrain and grip safety. As you point out it does make handling the car a bit "light-switch" in a lot of cases and not necessarily improved.

If you like to climb on one of those electronic rodeo bulls and shout "oi fat-f__k get a wiggle on and give me a decent ride" then it's all yours ! :biggrin3:

My RS6 had around 700bhp and was very very fast. in comparison my GTR R35 had 770 - 800bhp and was mental / scary fast but controllable.

The RS6 is a huge heavy car and when it get out of shape (easy to do) its not the easiest to get under control. 600bhp (standard ish) is about right. More than that it struggles to cope other than in a straight line. Magic car but its just too big and heavy for UK roads. mapped RS6 is great fun though and sounds good in the pub, although its a struggle to get through the doors

As for reliability given the 2.0 TFSI is doing around 600bhp with no internal engine mods the 4.0 will easily cope with 750bhp. I read (no experience) they can cope with around 1000 - 1200bhp before you need to change internals.

Map it you will love it!
