headlight beam throw

Post by rtd » Tue Nov 15, 2016 1:46 pm

apologies if this has been covered elsewhere or if its stated In the handbook (I've not had a chance to read it yet) however, this morning I noticed whilst driving that the beam from the lights seemed to be more angled towards the floor - I didn't have much light ahead of me the throw of the light was very small I'd say less than 25ft? car has LEDs - can the angle of the beam be adjusted within the MMI does anyone know? or do I have a problem?

Self adjusting, so if they're wrong it's stealer time.

I find this happens when you put the headlights in the anti-dazzle mode (pretty sure that isn't the official name) for wet roads.

On my FL version there is a little button by the headlight dial. Has that been turned on?

I know it's obviously a lot darker earlier in the day at the moment but my dipped beams seem to have a rubbish throw given they are 'state of the art'. I basically leave it auto main beam the whole time now and let the car sort it out!

Maybe worth taking it into a stealer just to get them to check?

Rob, lowering it may have affected the auto levelling.

No idea I'm afraid. I'd imagine it is done via a laptop but I don't know if it can be done with VCDS or how.

Ha I wish. The VCDS info is a little bit limited at the moment. It looks like there is so much to adjust but I think it is still largely unknown. But I will let have a Google later when I'm at home.

Have a look at the top of the headlights for any white hex-key'd circles like the ones in the A5 pic below, they're the physical adjusters for up/down/left/right etc but if you do decide to move them, turn the adjusters slowly (30 sec per 360') and remember that making them too high is an MOT failure.
