Interior light package

Post by discostu49 » Tue Oct 11, 2016 9:09 pm

So my car has this interior light package and it's a nice place to be at night with the footwells and uner the seats lit up when driving there is also a light strip under the carbon door trims but I feel they are too dim...I found a pic of what I want and a pic of what I have. Are you guys dim too ? Can they be increased via vagcom. ?

i haven't either found the option in Vagcom to increase the dimming, if it isn't dark enough you can barely notice the lights under the doors carbon trim...you can easily adjust the dimming of the footwell lights through the MMI, which is noticeable, but it doesn't do any big difference to the doors ones.

So your door ones are quite dim also at night? The footwell ones are perfect for me but want some more ambiance wander if trups could help it appears it's just one led that shines through the plastic giving the impression it's all lit up wander if a better led would help

I haven't seen any option in VCDS or the mmi to increase the brightness to the levels in the bottom pic, however that bottom pic looks like a long exposure pic (5+ secs) which will make things look brighter than they are in real life so it maybe that the strip in tbe bottom pic is actually oem brightness. I'll have a play tonight with my camera to reproduce the effect.

It would require a new strip light and *maybe* a new controller to make the car actually look like the bottom pic at night but I've no idea no easy it would be to replace the oem one.

I can't recall off the top of my head where the option is in the MMI but I've tinkered with mine in the past as it was too bright. I'll have a look when I back in it later.

I'm pretty sure the brightness can be changed through MMI directly

Yeah brightness can be adjusted in the MMI but the amount of change is fairly small, from off to dim only. I've not seen anything as bright as the OP's last pic through the MMI alone.

its never going to be bright as its classed as an Ambient light, it just glows in the background without been noticeable.

I can have a look, I have not bought a bulb out for it and I'm sure I explained it in a C7 post that in order to change the LED you need to remove the door card and 60% of my customer will not feel comfortable doing that so from a business point paying £1k for a mould then having to buy in the Minimum order of that new bulb I would never see a return.

I can how ever buy a lamp from Audi, strip it down, try get a brighter LED on it and test in my car, if all is better then I could buy a set and around the C6 owners do them on an Exchange base, the price would be the time it takes to de solder and re solder, postage costs covered both ways. I would pay for the new lamps them selves which are around £15 each. This also gives room that if you wanted to have them in others colours you can.

sound fair? if so then let me know and I will get on it later this month as I am stacked right now.

I had a look and the carbon trim just pops off and exposed the led strip. It's just 1 led bulb shining through the plastic strip I'm sure a brighter or more powerful bulb would work however I'm tempted to drill small holes in the plastic strip and solder a wire with a few more bulbs using the original bulb as a feed, similar to christmas tree lights. the plastic strip is hidden anyway so if a few resisters need added would be fine....?

Sorry only just had a chance to get back to this thread.

You adjust the brightness by going to the following menu on the 2G MMI:

Press the "Car" button
Select "Systems"
Select "Background lighting"

Done!

I thought there was quite a good range of brightness on mine, certainly enough that I couldn't be bothered with upgrading it anyway.

So the carbon trim clips off and you can access the strip to "change" the led if needed?
