Alcantara Steering Wheel?

Post by Gullwing » Tue Mar 08, 2016 11:48 am

I really like the look of the alcantara steering wheel on the RS3. Has anyone put one of these on a RS6? How easy would it be?

Go to Royal Steering Wheels; it's pretty much all they do. When i had a CSL (which comes with an alcantara wheel), it's where all owners went for an OEM finish.

I saw a RS6 for sale just before Christmas. Certainly not on the configurator but i imagine you could go through Audi Exclusive from new if you really wanted; i've seen some European cars who go a bit mad with the Exclusive stuff. I'd imagine the one i saw had it done retrospectively though.

Only issue with Alacantara wheels is they get greasy and look worn quite quickly
No good if, like me, you like a chocolate bar or two whilst you're driving :)
Look bloody cool though

I love the wheel in my wife's RS3 and thought about having the same done to my 6, but I think it will look worn very quickly and I'd be too scared to drive it unless I washed my hands everytime I got in the car.

Guess it depends how much you're going to be driving the car... and unless it's silly money you could always get it re-covered after one too many chocolate bars, right?

:D

Royal steerings prices are very reasonable for an alcantara retrim, but it means you have no car for a couple of weeks, or get hold of the donor wheel doing the rounds here following the group buy with royal steering (see the group buy section).

The steering wheel and gear knob on my rs6 were alcantara when I brought, were 6 years old and grubby as hell. Gave it a good clean with the correct cleaning fluid and a hand held steam cleaner, they came up pretty much like new. I sold them in the end cause the wife uses bloody hand cream all the time and soon made them look like cack.
If it's good quality, it should clean up and look great for many years.

I love Alcantara in a car. I had a CL600 with full extended leather/alcantara including the roof lining. It was the best interior in any car I have ever had. I used a suede shoe brush to comb it gently on a regular basis and it looked great. The E63 had the AMG Alcantara steering wheel and it was really nice to hold. Having taken the RS6 on I have also been thinking about changing it to Alcantara as well.

In the E63 it definitely did show some signs of flattening on the highest use area (22k miles) but it was not ugly. I have been known to nibble a pie in the car whilst driving (McD Double Sausage and Egg Muffin in the morning is my selected coronary inducer) and it never really suffered. I definitely will get the seat surface treated when I get a moment.

May give Royal a call shortly.

My C6 RS6 came with Alcantara wheel and it looked horrible. Great when new or when I hit it with a sued brush but did not last long.

I suppose if you only get the top and bottom done that would not wear the same and got to admit they do look cool.

Often mulled over getting an Alcantara steering wheel. Love Alcantara headlining, must have for me. Thanks for test driving the steering wheel... won't be going down that route!

I fitted the Neidfaktor CF steering wheel on mine. I prefer CF over Alcantara.
