Issue with drivers side rear door

Post by birdiemachine » Tue Sep 29, 2015 9:13 pm

Any ideas where to start with troubleshooting this one guys?

My drivers side rear door sometimes goes totally "dead", as in wont lock/unlock and electric window won't activate. It's not a issue ATM as it is in a secure private garage at home and also when at work as it won't set the alarm when it thinks the rear door isn't locked it just locks the other doors.

There is no pattern to how it works and I've tried everything I can to "provoke" it so to speak but it's totally random.

I have VCDS will scan it tomorrow, will that show up anything?

Cheers

Niall

the doors plug in to the loom to help when removing the doors, id check there first, or inside the rubber boot between the door and the car

Plug it into Vag Com, it will be the control module most likely.

It's likely the electrical connection to the door lock. Common problems on VAG cars. Usually replacing the lock mechanism itself sorts the issue as the actuator comes with it. I've replaced a few now on various VAG cars I've owned. There will likely be a fault code stored. When you try to close it sometimes does it bounce as if it's already locked?

Left the car in with audi today, they had ordered in a lot of parts for the door anticipating what it may be.

Turns out it was a faulty "door control module", they also ordered in the wrong door control module so have rebooked it for 2 weeks time.

Price quoted including labour is £430.

Am i having my pantaloons lowered?

Should i order this part myself, and fit it? Slush fund is low this month after buying 4 new alloys and michelin winters and a 3 day detail.

Any advice welcome cheers!

Depends how much the part is?
It's just a case of taking the door panel off mate.

1 hours labour max to remove & refit door panel (that's what Audi quoted me) @ £50 plus vat. Say half hour to remove & fit the module @ £25 plus vat so unless the module you need costs £340 then I think your having your pants pulled down.

If that is the control module shown in the photo then just whip your door card off and take a look. It only takes a few minutes to take it off. Then buy new one yourself from Audi / ebay / breakers yard.
Or leave the door card off for a discount when you take it to Audi.

That is the module with the white Sticker on next to the electric window motor.
1hr is easily enough time to remove/refit the door panel,Christ if it was an insurance job at the bodyshop where I work it would prob be 15 minutes!!!
