RS4 B7 Wing mirror catastrophe

Post by RobRS4 » Thu Apr 30, 2015 12:58 pm

Hi all,

I walked out to the car on Sunday morning to find my drivers side wing mirror hanging off by the electrical cable.

Needless to say I was a little disappointed. There was no note (obviously, why would you leave a note?)

I have rung various Audi Stealers to get a quote. The cheapest I have found is 500 quid all in (Parts, Labour and VAT) for a partial replacement. (the glass and motor survived unscathed), although I have had quotes for £650, £607 and £594. The cover ( brushed aluminium effect- actually plastic) is £250 alone.

I am speechless at the cost of this. I have replaced aux rads, power steering pump and the water pump, all at extortionate prices becuase I know that they are parts which are under a lot of stress in a performance engine. I am struggling to understand how the plastic wingmirror cover is high performance even if it does look cool.

There has to be a better way than this, has anyone done this and come off better?

If for nothing else, I will know should this ever happen again.

Any advice is much appreicated!!

Cheers
