I've been saying for a while now if I had the money I'd be making an RS6 saloon by buying an S6 saloon and and RS6 avant and transferring everything across.
A cheaper alternative would be a widebody S6 conversion i.e. leave the existing engine etc. I assume this is what you mean? Still a quick car, and a V8 turbo so plenty of extra power to be gained. The V8 is the main reason for me wanting to do an S6 widebody rather than an S4 widebody.

Yeah I think it's hideous from the back, much like the RS6 avant. Different story from the front though.

S6 is S-tronic so it might be a bit limited on torque and longevity, still an effing quick car.
No matter where you go, there you are.

That's a good point. I did find it odd that Audi didn't put their flagship tranny in the RS6, as most of their competition are running with the sexier DCT boxes, but no doubting the RS6 is rapid with it's ZF slush box.

What transmission does the S8 run with?

S6 to RS6 already done, albeit in avant form:

It'd probably be an AWD versus torque/weight issue.
The S8 runs a ZF8 IIRC.

Sounds nice! Looks like the genuine thing. I assume they used genuine parts although it probably cost close to (or more than) an actual RS6 so not sure of the point.
Not an engine transplant though.

Does anyone know the difference between the s6 and rs6 engine? I assume it is internals and major parts like the block so not easily modified to make an exact engine rather than just a different map / filters / exhaust / intercooler etc?

No need for an engine transplant.

Few bolt on mods yield similar figures:

But the S-Tronic could be an issue.

A few bolt on mods will give a similar figure to a standard RS6 but is there anyway to get the sort of numbers a remapped RS6 gives? I've not looked into it, I'm just making an assumption that unless you have the same starting field the you will always be a bit behind in the numbers, which is why I wondered if you could make the S6 engine into an RS6 engine fairly easily.

Yes I agree, it definately needs the bumpers and wide arches, then dropped and add some decent wheels.
