Some interesting times.

The F10 M5 was quicker than the R35 GT-R & matched the time of the R8 V10. The C7 RS6 was a touch quicker than all 3 but all 4 of them were quicker than their AMG counterparts.

Hence the reason we take everything the press say with a pinch of salt :boots:

Not sure in reality the C7 RS6 would have timed better over 1.8km than some of the cars mentioned. Great run though & i'm more shocked that the M5 (& i guess the RS6) were faster than the R35 over 1800 metres.

Yes it does have launch control. Used it in the demo car a few times really pushes you back simple gearbox in sport traction into sport mode, left foot brake right foot mash the pedal locks at about 2,3000k let go of brake and catapults forward never seen many test or review people use it don't think they know how. :biggrin3:

I'm sure they will know as launch control is not an new thing. Been around for years and is the pretty much the same in all cars that have it. I've even used it in a 2.0TFSI A5 loaner from Audi.

May be but ive seen a number of review german uk and someone asks them this got launch control and they're like no and in races don't really hear them using it. Especially if u drive so many different cars they all have a different way of doing it i only knew because i did a search even the salesman wasn't too sure he said hold both paddles towards me.

I think you'll find they do as certainly in the RS6 & most other powerful AWD cars, it's how they get the great pull off the line. Doesn't work as well obviously in RWD cars so often better to modulate & then bury the loud pedal but in an AWD car the Launch Control gathers everything together perfectly for the perfect launch.

Look at the R35 GT-R as a perfect example, the early cars (with 475bhp) were able to do 0-62mph in 3.5secs & the current model (with 550bhp) i believe in 2.7secs, that's pretty much all down to the clever launch control. The same applies to Porsches (& many other marques). I'd be surprised if anyone testing an AWD car is not using Launch Control to get the best possible time/speed.

Gearing, grip and DSG also help as much for 0-60 for the GTR, 991 Turbo S etc rather than just LC

That's what i said as the Launch Control is factoring all of the relevant components so as to have everything set just perfectly for the launch. So the clever software brings together the correct levels of the transmission/engine to execute a repeated perfect launch, however as you say once off the line the other factors come into play post launch.

Those factors will also apply to the RS6, although i've no idea how clever or quick the transmission is as isn't the C7 RS6 using a regular single clutch Auto (Tiptronic) with a software enhancement to speed it up? I've slso no idea if it's quicker or slower than a DCT.

Although pretty much every performance car that deploys LC looks quick, the one that still staggers me is the 991 Turbo S. It looks so brutal & so quick that i've yet to see anything take off from the line quicker. Want want want

Yes, C7 RS6 is the 8-speed ZA affair, standard single clutch slosh-o-matic. The 911TTS is awesome when mashing the pedal, let alone when launching. It is an awesome machine, it's next up for me after the facelift arrives next year.

It is awesome indeed.. However, beware the rattles, err and compressors, punctures, blue smoke, bulging spoiler, windscreen problems, creaks and bird <beep>.
