Squeaky serpentine belt

Post by SuprSi » Fri Jun 13, 2014 2:35 pm

Hey folks,

Probably the most minor issue on the forum, glad this is all i've got to whine about!

I've had the timing and accessory belts changed while it was at the garage, it's fine when it's cold but when it starts getting toasty under the bonnet it starts making a bit of noise, not the slipping squeal, just a squeak squeak.... Has anyone got any solutions for this? I used to periodically put a bit of talc powder on my old polo's alternator belt years ago which did the trick nicely. is there anything better?

Cheers my lovelies x

Did you get the tensioner changed? It's an automatic one on the rs6 so might just be getting a bit old.

Yeah that was done supposedly, I'm wandering if something's contaminated the belt. Can't be anything major or it would do it all the time i would have thought. Only seems to do it at idle when hot.

I need to get it up on the ramps anyway to fix one of the exhaust heat shields that's decided to embarrass me, so i shall have a look then and try giving it a scrub with some detergent and a toothbrush or something.

Cheers Nobby
