Buying with unknown history (Northern Ireland)
Buying with unknown history (Northern Ireland)
Hi guys
I'm looking at a car that has only been in the U.K. for 12 months. The first sellers were a main stealer so I guess one could assume the history checks out but as with anything there are no guarantees in life!
It's a 2010 car and the owner says it has 2 owners in NI and they have the plate. Is there anyway to check the history in NI? Anything else I should look out for? Impact on pricing?
All comments and especially those with experience much appreciated.
Thanks

hey, maybe more detials on the car and post it on the specific forum for the model might get more replies mate!
Re: Buying with unknown history (Northern Ireland)
Fair point but tbh I think the car is irrelevant. It's more about the import rules and impact on pricing from NI
Tbh. I've googled most of it now and broadly it's not a problem, but NI just doesn't have the same "stringent" rules as the uk so I'm less comfortable. Will probably pass.
Thanks anyway

Sorry, thought this was in relation to the history of a specific car when in NI.
With the reg and detials of the car, it might be know to members on here.
Best of luck with the search

N. Ireland is still part of the UK last time I looked! And still falls under everything that comes out of Westminster and Brussels as well for that matter.S4WON wrote:but NI just doesn't have the same "stringent" rules as the uk so I'm less comfortable. Will probably pass.

There is no difference with the cars except there number plates are numbered different, i sold my RS4 to a well known member on here when i was based in NI.
I also P/x my Megane F1 Team R26 230 to a dealer in London and it was registered in NI. there are no problems at all, also have a search for Holybrook cars, they do some nice motors and run a detailers so always in good nick.

Yup as Barrbudden says. Its the same as buying a car in the mainland. I bought a VW van from the NI VW dealer back in Dec. The only issue I had was that I sent the V5 back to NI's equivalent of the DVLA as that's what the address was on the NI V5. They sent it back saying as I lived on the mainland I had to send the V5 to DVLA Swansea. So I did, they gave me the option of keeping the NI plate or changing it to a UK style plate. and that was it.barrybudden wrote:N. Ireland is still part of the UK last time I looked! If anything the systems in NI are a lot more stringent !! For example the MOT is not carried out by Independant garages but in government run purpose built test centres. As for rules not being the same, it's still part of the UK !!S4WON wrote:Fair point but tbh I think the car is irrelevant. It's more about the import rules and impact on pricing from NI
