Door Handle

Post by the cueball » Fri Jan 31, 2014 10:49 am

Moring all...

I think I have an issue with the handle in that it doesn't open the door just by pulling it normally.

I have to kind of push/lift/pull it to get the door open.

Now I guess there is some kind o flatch, or rod that is either worn or about to break, so I want to obviously fix it before that happens.

I had a quick search and found this topic:

http://forum.rs246.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... 6&start=15

which has a pretty good video on removing the interior trim.

My question is, do we have some notes or a guide on how to fix the issue once the trim is off????

Or is it just an obvious thing once you are staring at the mechanism?

Thanks!

You say you have to push, lift and pull before it will open ok.

Do you mean that the door drops down a little once opened? Just trying to clarify if the door is dropping due to worn hinge pins and not letting the door mechanism/ latch engage properly.

Either that or you can adjust the rods that connect between the handle and main mechanism.

It is a tricky job but not hard at all once you've removed the door trim. If you do decide to tackle it yourself then take pics at each stage so you can refer back.

The best way to give you maximum access is to remove the window with it's mounting frame. If memory serves there are a few little wedge spacers, mark their positions and take a pic of each one so you can put them back exactly as they were.

Then you have full access to the door's guts. Test each adjustment you make by obviously closing the door, lock, unlock and try handle.

Good luck!
