Which Dual Action polisher?

Post by Swanee » Sat Dec 28, 2013 7:58 pm

Hey guys,

Looking to get my hands dirty with my new RS4 so just purchased a Nilfisk pressure washer, Poorboys Black Hole Show Glaze, Poorboys Natty's Paste, and a few other bits but now looking at a decent DA polisher... any suggestions?

I've seen the Meguiars Dual Action Polisher Version 2 but for £169 i think it's is pretty expensive.

Any recommendations are much appreciated.

Cheers,
Swanee

the second link looks like a rotary polisher to me, not a DA machine.

the megs DA is probably about the best around (IMO) but there are others, like the DAS 6 pro which are decent enough as well.

for working on hard Audi paint, I wouldn't bother with a DA to be honest, I much prefer a rotary.

As stated above, the Audi paint is hard so rotary would be your best. The DA is a lot safer though so if you're a beginner I would go with that. Make sure you get decent pads and polish too!!
Detailing world can be very helpful, can also be bloody confusing too.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

Good point guys... see told you I was a beginner ha.

So due to hard Audi paint rotary is best as long as Im careful?

Any recommendations of pads, the TechTake has a large selection of pads but Im sure they aren't the best available.

Thanks guys,

Would be keen to hear how you get on. I've taken the first steps toward better car cleaning (ordered two new buckets, one with a grit guard a wash mitt and some clay) but a bit wary of machinery in case I'd more harm than good. The choice of lotions and potions is also bewildering. Which types would be used with a machine - the sound of 'cutting' compounds has me running for the hills. :drink:
I've a phantom black s4 b8 and it sure doesn't stay clean for very long.
It has some very minor swirls and a few tiny stone chips but comes up pretty well. Just don't fancy handing over £300 + for something I feel I could slowly do myself . . .

I bought a DAS-6 Pro for my B7 in Pearl Black - works just fine with Chemical Guys Hexalogic pads and Sonax Perfect Finish.

And this this is why I chose this combination...

as stated, get a rotary one, start slow and carful on the edges of bonnet and wings etc and you will be fine
