Heart stopping brake noise

Post by Stairs » Mon Nov 25, 2013 11:08 am

Thought I would share this one with you all, pulled into work on Saturday and the security guard told me my brake sounded really bad, I rolled forward and heard what I will describe as metal scraping on metal but like a lot of metal.... Horrendously loud. I couldn't see anything caught under the car so called the RAC out, sat there thinking about how many thousands this was going to cost and how the kids won't be getting turkey this Christmas when the RAC man turned up, pressed on the dust shield behind the brake disc and out popped a little stone.... Fault fixed, Christmas is back on.

Looks like the stone flicked up inside and then rattled around with the sound being amplified buy the cover. Just thought id share this with everyone incase it happens.

Had a scare when I had the focus st, was getting a bad clicking noise coming from passenger side, was thinking driveshafts ect. Turned out wheel arch liner was loose & rattling when you drive haha

I had the same in my old B7. Sounded very expensive, but was a trapped stone too.. Never been so relieved in my life as discs were only a few months old

The stone that lodged in the ceramics is still in my desk tidy...polished smooth on one side... Very relieved!

Will put one up when I'm back in work on Monday. For something the size of a fingertip and about 7.5mm thick it didn't half make a racket - even more people than usual turning to look at the car!
