24hr test drive

Audi Swindon have been trying to give me their RS6 demo again for a while now, and after an unexpected warning light on my B8 RS4 last night, I picked up their RS6 demo this morning for 24hrs
Unfortunately, today's job was to pick my mother up from devon, which is a 300ish mile round trip and I spent a good 4hrs sat on the side of the M5 after they closed it due to an accident and then, in turn, hit the m5/m4 junction in rush hour on the return

After finally getting to devon, I got to stretch the legs of the car a bit after it thoroughly convinced me in its role as a mileage crusher
The car I have is on air suspension and it's a very comfortable place to be. It's not super sharp, but it suits the car very well and still gives a reasonable amount of feedback through your backside.
The difference between comfort and dynamic modes isn't massive, but it does appear to sharpen up the already quite roll free chassis. Comfort seemed good though

The cars real trump card though is the absolutely crushing acceleration from any speed
On an empty piece of 'runway' (ahem) I gave the throttle a squeeze, as I had about 3 miles of visibility and zero traffic, and expected to look down and see 120ish, but was shocked to see 165. I quickly backed off, but it was very stable at that speed and still had lots to give

Finally arriving in devon ;

Tonight, I got a chance to figure it on my (surprisingly accurate when compared with vbox previously at vmax) iPhone app - dynolicious ;

The road was a little damp, so the wheels span up off the line, in second and lack of launch control made getting going tricky, but it's a crushingly fast car to 100

Overall, it's a very impressive car and I'd certainly love to own one over my RS4, but it's a lot of money that's currently tied up in my R8 V10+ fund and I just couldn't justify owning both
Also, although it hides it's mass very well, it's much bigger than what I need and it barely fits in a regular parking spot
Plus, that much power everyday = no license for Graeme in no time :(

I used the vbox at vmax black and compared all the times and they were within a few percent of each other (maybe 1/10 of a second out on 0-100, so pretty close)

It's dead easy to use, but the slightest movement triggers it, so you sometimes get a horrendous 0-60 time etc
Needs to be held solidly against a fixed surface in the car to work

The Rs6 definitely does have launch control as Coventry Audi demonstrated it to me a few weeks back. I think it is also shown in a video on the Listers website although it's part way through a long promotional RS6 video.

It's entirely possible that I just wasn't managing to engage it, and after one attempt, I just assumed it didn't have it, doh !

My experience with Swindon is mixed. Back at their old facility, I had a few issues with my last B7 with things not getting done etc, but I found this to be more of a problem with the service 'office' guy rather than the actual techs as the instruction communication just didn't seem to be there, and it became really frustrating at times even to the point where I got the dealer principle involved.

Since they moved to the flash new place around a year ago, every bit of work I've had done has been faultless
However, I'm known there and one of the tech's is a friend of a friend, so I'm not assuming my experience is consistent with joe blogs' of the street.
Also, I like to go into the bays and talk to the guys when they're working on my cars as I'm simply intrigued
They seem a decent bunch of guys and the master techs there have a wealth of experience with RS models, which is always a bonus
