Ludicrious Speed

Post by Dave_Hedgehog » Tue Oct 15, 2013 1:48 pm

I am currently enjoying a 6 whilst my 3 is in for an inspection

What an epic car, 80-150 is just ludicrous :bigblink:

The dynamic suspension is 100 times better than the B8 RS4, its a real cross continent mile muncher, and the noise, just sublime. Its happiest at 7/10ths

apart from the 12mpg :( thats not good

The BOSE system is weak for such an expensive bit of kit

Would be keen to understand how/why the suspension is so much better than the RS4 Dave. I have driven the air car and have finally tracked down a dynamic car to test in a few days time, I'm hoping the turn in will be sharper with more feel/weight in the steering and that the ride will be close enough to the air set up to make it a good family proposition.

As an aside, at what point do folks think Audi will start to discount the RS6? I have it in my head that they started to push C6 around 12 months after launch.

C6 was completely different kettle of fish because of proximity to global financial meltdown. Don't use this as a basis.

I believe discounts can be had, just not in the same league as those available on RS4.

I don't know what spec my car is but it has air as you can jack it up 30mm :)

Around millbrook and the surrounding roads which are much smoother than my local roads the B8 in dynamic felt like a jack hammer hammering into the chassis 100 times a minute, it made a couple of ppl in my car feel sick, and that's after the RS3 which basically has steel rods for struts

The C7 has very little roll (if any) and turns in very well given its immense mass, it's very stable at high speed corners (that have the 3 very skittish)

Take into account it's not my car so a) I am not used to it b) I am not abusing it c) i view it as having a different roll to the 3 ie it's a cross continent load lugger so my expectations are different (the 3 stops a lot better but it's a tonne lighter and going slower)

To me it's a hugely capable car given what it's meant to do

I got 16mpg out of it in London today now that I have stop start sussed

A fair point, but I would expect dealers to get keener after 12 months or so, if only to compete against the M5 and E/CLS63 where some big deals are now available. Once the RS6 loses its novelty value I think new and used prices will head south. Coast2Coast are offering around 8% now, although I've never dealt with them so won't put my shirt on it, but they've been around a while. Anyway, booked a drive in a DRC car this weekend and will post my impressions against the standard car.

Audi don't want to compete with BMW or Merc, they've made that pretty clear!

Downside in the BMW/Merc camp is that residuals will be mullered, can't have it all.

I'm interested to understand your point about competition and quite why it's so clear? I don't think Audi have the luxury of deciding who their competition is, the market decides (us) and from where I sit it's a fairly clear choice if I want a fast family car under 90k.

Merc and BMW have been offering practically give away deals on AMG and M for some time. Are Audi doing that on their RS cars? Err, no.

<90k only gets you a so-so RS6.

That's my biggest problem, there are no RS deals ATM, the 6 is £1250 a month 10k personal, I can get a C63 AMG for £520

You can get a small discount already on the RS6 and there are generous incentives on RS4 now, so if the RS6 follows the same pattern then I guess we could see bigger discounts in around 12-18 months time.

I agree with Dave, the AMG and M deals are very tempting, especially if you're handing the keys back after a couple of years, that said I prefer the Audi. I am driving a DRC car tomorrow, though got into conversation with one of the professional drivers who has been involved with some of the driving days around the country, his view is that the standard set up and steering is the best compromise for UK roads. Will report back.
