My wing mirror made high speed contact with a fat pigeon this morning. It dislodged the mirror glass from the housing and the housing from the door. The mirror glass was only held on by 2 spade terminals and wires on the back. It seems that the glass has a heater element and power supply but my car does not have heated mirrors AFAIK.
Are the mirrors with elements standard even if the option isn't installed?
All went back together OK, nothing broken.

Re: Bird strike- wing mirror question
i thought heated door mirrors are standard on all rs4's, you turn them on when you press the rear screen demist button?.

Thanks- i didn't know that. I thought they were an option and shown by a symbol at the middle position of the control knob.sar wrote:i thought heated door mirrors are standard on all rs4's, you turn them on when you press the rear screen demist button?.
Re: Bird strike- wing mirror question
I thought I had heated side mirrors but I have no symbol (just an 'I') at the middle. Seems to clear quickly enough, maybe that's just my imagination...Coaster wrote:Thanks- i didn't know that. Re: Bird strike- wing mirror question
As Sar says, standard equipment and comes on with heated rear screen, nothing to do with the adjusment buttons / knob.
Re: Bird strike- wing mirror question
And if in doubt, turn the rear screen on and feel the mirror glass - it gets noticeably warmer...

Just did that this morning. You're all correct. They are heated and they do get warm to the touch. Every cloud has a silver lining.Dom81 wrote:And if in doubt, turn the rear screen on and feel the mirror glass - it gets noticeably warmer...
