Service reset

Post by bravoit » Mon Apr 15, 2013 8:49 am

I've had my car serviced and although the service indicator has been reset, the car calculates 500 miles to the next service? It's been reset twice now and the same thing happens? Any ideas what the garage are doing wrong?

Hi can anyone help on this? It's been reset again but the same problem. Was fine after the last service but this time I've got this problem?

it's in the manual

iirc
car off
depress service button
turn key on (not start) while holding button in
display shows current state
press reset
done

In addition to the garage trying using their various equipment, I've done the manual reset method suggested myself, lines come up on dash and then a few hundred miles later it shows 600 miles?

leave it for a few weeks and see if it sorts itself out?
Has it been set to variable or fixed interval?

Had this on mine after a service, think it reset after a few hundred miles.

There is a post about it already on here so have a look.

It was on standard servicing. I think I'll leave it a while and see what happens. Independent said it may be something to do with my instrument cluster. I take it this is unlikely?

VCDS has an SRI feature now - makes resetting after a service really easy.

I have the same problem, but my service keeps coming up every 1000 miles or so and I have reset mine about 3 times already and its back up again! I have a wee plug in basic diagnostic thing and it shows that the service should only come up every 14000miles (I think).

I think Arthur hit it dead on with it just measured how much petrol had been consumed.
Simple and effective way of working out 'driving style'.
