AMD chip for a 1.8T - a good idea?
AMD chip for a 1.8T - a good idea?
Though not exactly in you guys league i'm considering a re-chip from AMD for my 1.8T giving an extra 40BHP and 40lbs of torque. All the usual questions, performance wise no doubt its a big plus, but what are the likely down sides?

Can't beat a bit of boost!
Re: AMD chip for a 1.8T - a good idea?
I had an AMD chip in my A4 1.8T Sport.
Very pleased with the extra performance and for me there was no change in the fuel consumption.
Go for it.

Have to agree on the fuel consumption statement. My A4 has a superchip and fuel economy is not affected, unless you are driving very hard.

Not sure about the fuel consumption, perhaps I'm just using more right foot . Very happy with the service i got from AmD last summer. Let me know where in Kent you are and I may be able to take you for a spin

Ditto above, I had 196bhp and 220lbft from a 150bhp 1.8T. Fuel economy improved along with drivability and torque characteristics. Couldn't fault AmD and the car did 50,000 miles on the chip without problems.
Re: AMD chip for a 1.8T - a good idea?
That's quite a chunk of extra oomph! Do the insurers require me to sign over the souls of my children in respect of additional premiums???? Oh and should I ask AMD to fit a Hyperboost valve too?
I'm sure her indoors is going to be thrilled at all this!

Ditto , you will not regret and my fuel consuptiom got better by several mpg, overall I got 37/38 for three years, up to 43/44 on long steady runs averaging 53/54 mph. Speed ......... more than enough for the Thames Valley area !!

Cripes! That's good, the 'computer' on my A6 tells me i'm doing 30mpg in trainers or 27.5 in lead boots, could there be something amiss?
On a recent blast to Hannover these figures didn't vary despite averages of over 120MPH...

Re: AMD chip for a 1.8T - a good idea?
Don't worry your fuel consumption sounds OK (Chris had an A3 1.8T, still 37/38 MPG average sounds bloody good Chris!).
My A4 did approx. 27 to 28 MPG overall standard and chipped.

Probably better off contacting Revo direct, they'll be able to say if they have an agent down under
