New owner - some simple questions
Hi
Joining the club of S4 (Avant) ownership on Tuesday. Have a couple of no doubt simple questions that I am sure people will be able to answer...
- The car has HDD Sat Nav but I noticed it only does 5 digit post codes. Is that right ? Browsing the internet it looks like there is an update that can be done but you have to pay?
- Can you set the driver electric memory seats and mirrors to individual keys (std keys) so that myself and the wife can have a different setup ? I know that you can just press the button on the door but would be good if you can do it with the keys as well
- Does the AMI interface support USB and therefore can I put music tracks on a USB stick and play them ?
- How does the servicing work ? Looking on the display I found something that said that oil service was due in 5,000 miles and then the inspection (or whatever its called in Audi world) was in 12,000 miles. Seemed odd to me as that would mean only 7,000 miles been services ?
Sure there will be more questions - thanks for now !!

Welcome and FON. You need to post what year model car you are getting to answer all questions, the hdd sat nave has changed on the facelift cars, the keys can be programmed in the mmi to retain individual settings so that the car can recognise each key, servicing is dependant whether the car is set to long life or annual,it takes into account driving style ,conditions not just mileage

Re: New owner - some simple questions
Its a 2012 car, march 12 registration (avant stronic)
Think I noticed something on some paperwork that servicing is set to long life - is that the best thing and if so how does that relate to my earlier question about only being approx 7,000 miles between services ?
Thanks for your help.

Re: New owner - some simple questions
Well my HDD has 7 digit post code so assume yours is an earlier one
Same thing happened with Porsche, shortly after launch they put 7 digit on but ours is 5!
I've read that in the case of Porsche you can get it done

Re: New owner - some simple questions
Sorry but 5 digit postcodes on a 2012 car is totally unacceptable! I would be pushing for the updated FW from the supplying dealer.
On other VAG vehicles it is just a firmware update to get 7 digit (however radios like the RNS-E have not had a firmware update to make it possible due to it being an old unit)
Most VAG cars with memory seats can have the keys set up the way you require, the B8 should be no exception.
Variable servicing takes the type of journey you do into account and works out the intervals on the fly, these are typically up to 18K miles or two years.

Sounds like your car is pre facelift [same as mine ] that would explain the difference in satnav.rooney1000 wrote:Its a 2012 car, march 12 registration (avant stronic)

Re: New owner - some simple questions
It is pre facelift as has the old lights on the front. I will speak with the dealer about the upgrade and see what they say.
Might be back with some more questions on the servicing when I get the car. I understand that it works out the way you are driving the car etc but would of thought that it would be at least 10,000 to 12,000 miles between services (where as the display I looked at indicated it was only 7,000). Will get some pictures when I pick it up and post up here.
Looking forward to getting it now !

Heres a link for Audi servicing. http://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/servi ... icing.html
Re: New owner - some simple questions
Please let us know what they say - I have a 2011 car with HDD and would love a firmware upgrade to allow 7-digit postcodes. As said, 5-digits only is unforgivable these days....rooney1000 wrote: I will speak with the dealer about the upgrade and see what they say.

Re: New owner - some simple questions
Well in my haste and excitement of picking up the car I forgot to ask about the 7 digit postcode upgrade - Sorry !! I didn’t buy the car from my local dealer so in the next couple of weeks I might swing by my dealer and see what he has to say about it.
As for the car, for those interested, only had it just over a day but very impressed so far. A perfect cruiser for day to day use but with a really fun turn of pace when required. Surprised at how quick it feels, had a little play with an Octavia vRS on the way home as he was keen to get away from me on a single carrige way. Was honestly impressed at his pace but as soon as I used the full potential of the car there was only one outcome. Sure I will learn more about it in the future, am liking the B&O sound, very good.

Re: New owner - some simple questions
I had an Octavia VRS before the S4 and I have to say, even at stage 1 the S4 walks away from it. As expected really. The thing that surprised me with the S4 was how it stayed with a Cayman S.

Re: New owner - some simple questions
OK here is something that is baffling me (still). Electric memory seats !
Have followed the instructions in the manual but still no joy (want to save my setting to the key). So, on the MMI under one of the menus (seat adjustment or something) I have set remote key thing to on. I then set the seat, mirrors etc to the position I want, press set and then I hold down the number 1 on the door until it bleeps. That all seems fine.
So I then put the seat back as far as it go so I can see if it works, get out of the car, lock it, unlock it and guess what - nothing happens. Shouldnt the seat move to my position when I unlock the car ? It moves if I hold down number 1 on the door but I would really like it to the key.
Anyone got any ideas ?

Try putting key in ignition and starting the car.

The above is correct... After you have done the above, DO NOT DO anything to the seats. Just close the car, walk away, and come back to the car with keyfob number 2 and when you open the car see if it moves away from the setting that was linked to key number 1 (that is assuming memory 1 and 2 have different seat settings ....).
