Brake pad warning light

Post by zed_hn » Wed Nov 21, 2012 5:01 pm

Just a quick question does the front and rear pads have the brake sensor on them or is it just the fronts?

Just the fronts and if its on origonal front pads the wear sensors in the pad will eat the disks before coming on.....so be carefull,if its had pads they will be the revised items and ok

Maybe you've cooked the pads in 4000 miles, could happen. Do you know what pads were put on?

no not sure. didn't think i drive in a way to cook the pads. i suppose the only way to tell is taking a look then. will take the wheels of in the next few days then...

what sort of sensors are these? do they make contact with the discs, or do they work on temperature?

thanks r

From what I've seen they're a loop of soft metal inserted into the pad, which will break a circuit when worn through...

I assumed they made contact with the disc. Didn't know there was any other type.

ok thanks. i was just told today there's also a temp sensor type (not necessarily on our cars).
i was trying to find out a way of de-activating the system...

Some aftermarket pads don't have any sensors at all.

Maybe one of the site sponsors might want to offer a Christmas discount for pads, maybe even a group-buy type deal? I'm pretty sure mine are low, though no error message, so will need replaced soon enough. I was thinking Yellow stuff, but apparently Red stuff are better for road use (less dust, if nothing else)?

i know (ds2500). that was one of the reasons of maybe de-activating the system then. not too keen on soldering the wires though...

i would be up for that.
as far as i understood, red stuff are equal performance to oem, and yellowstuff are a step up.

Red Stuff for the RS4 are not that good - think they also eat the discs.

I have yellow stuff and now issues at all.

It could also be that the sensor why has been broken, the pads may be ok.

Basically the sensor wires need to have a complete curcuit - if its broken then the warning light will come on.

Or if the pads they put on didnt have sensor conectors the wires may have just been wound together and come apart.

Failing that you were told a load of BS when they said they replaced the pads
