What mileage would you expect to get out of brake disks?

I have 75k on mine and they are 60% or so worn now
I recently mic'ed them, at 70k or so

no cracks at the holes
I change pads every 30k or so, on the 3rd or 4th set

My experience is slightly different, I have averaged about 20k per set of discs and am on my third set of fronts at 53k. The discs have always gone long before the pads have though I am still on my original discs and pads on the rear.

I do quite a bit of urban drving which is all I can put the shorter life down to based on the mileage everyone else seems to get.

Dude there's something wrong with your driving / the car if you pads out live your discs! Don't kid yourself its the urban driving either, I used to drive mine in central London everyday when I still lived in London so rarely saw an open road and I am heavy footed.

I thought it was good practice to replace the pads when you change the disks?

It is and I changed the front pads each time the dics where changed. FWIW, the pads generally had a third left in them when the discs where changed.

It is, but it is not normal to wear out a set of disks by using 2 thirds of a set of pads, unless you use metal files for pads!
Normally you'd get a through a couple of sets of pads before you need to change the disks.

What made you think that the disks needed changing after just 2 thirds of a pads useage? Do you keep warping them or are you wearing them down? I find it hard if not impossible to believe that you can wear a disk down with less than one set of pads. Did you measure the disk thickness?
Are you using standard disks? and what pads?

Discs/pads all OE no warping. Audi advised change required due to wear which I usually ignore for 6/9 months by which time there is a huge lip on the outside of the discs and they look like the have been monstered on trackdays even though I don't track the car. Last worn set had visible dash-lined 'spokes' from the centre to outer part of the discs that kind of looked like lines of little cracks but where not.

I'd be tempted to get a 2nd opinion next time or get yourself some calipers (the measuring type not the braking type) and meausre the thickness yourself.

if you ignore for 6/9 months and still not get through 2/3 of a set of pads then I can only assume you must do very low milage. How old are the disks when they recommend you change them? Perhaps it is ibecause they have corroded / perished rather than worn.

Audi discs are renowned for being made of cheese, one set of pads will easily do one set of discs. Some have done discs in 15k.
