Swapping to 20" alloys, is it all worth it?

Post by dazie00 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:09 pm

Hi guys , have a blue avant with original 19" alloys and ss+ with no rubbing and fill the arches nicely, have ordered some spacers from revolution which will fit at the weekend, but have seen some lovely rs6 alloys on here and am tempted but need advice on rubbing, tyre sizes and spacers if needed, are the standard wheels 9" wide? Should I sell original wheels ? Or keep for resale as original cars always go for more dosh or should I leave we'll alone, help!? :nogarors4:

IMO if you've got the money to put 20" RS6 triple spokes on, then go for it - they're some of the best looking RS wheels, and look the part on the RS4. But seeing as you're also in east sussex, please don't get them, otherwise I'd be jealous if I spotted your car! :)

I wouldn't sell the OE 19s though - I'd keep them and put them back on when time comes to sell, and sell the 20s - a standard car will always have a wider appeal, and the 20s should fetch decent money at the time. Or just run the 19s on winter rubber.

I'm sure others on here will give jump in with advice re clearances etc (sorry, I don't know the answer)

Definitely worth it ! I love the look of mine on the 20"'s.

Mine is at ET23 (OEMis ET33) on a 9.5 inch 20"' and also coilovers probably a few mm lower than SS suspension so you'll be fine with RS6's. You'll need to remove the inner arch screw on the front.

And agree with DALO, keep the OEM wheels for that back to stock look.

p.s cracking car history there........

Thanks slow monkey, I've lost a few quid but love me cars so why not eh! What tyres do u have on 20s" and would I need spacers?gotta say yours looks cool, the trouble is they look really good standard and I'd love to see a sprint blue avant with the rs6 20" s on b4 buying, doing another £900 on rubber! :nogarors4:

my wheels used to have 265/30/20 y94 sportmaxx's and 10mm spacers. i'm not sure though if the spacers were needed or if the previous owner did it for looks

As others have said the 20" wheels from a C6 RS6 look really good on the B7 RS4 and you won't experience any rubbing on SS+ suspension.

I'm not far from you (St Leonards) and I visit friends in Eastbourne quite often so i'll give you a wave if I see you about :beerchug:

Great, I didn't notice much difference swapping from the 19"s, I ran them without changing the suspension for a while, i'd like to say the reduced tyre profile increased turn in feel and helped neutralise understeer as a 10% improvement, but I'd be making that up !

Suspension gave a massive change in handling set up, but just the wheel swap you'd be hard pushed to tell any difference.
