None taken! I would've done it this way myself but my flow straightener started to crack so I "did it from behind" (oo-err!!!), but i would've only done it this way for convenience as i see no point in reversing it (i.e. putting the screen back in) - the point here is that, given the size of the mesh, if particles big enough to be trapped by the mesh are getting through to your MAF then you've got some SERIOUS problems with you air-box/air-filter!!!
Cavalier...? Quite appropriate Clive

but that wasn't the word i was thinking of.....

Something to do with the faster you go the younger you get.
Nah.......your "clock" runs slower the faster you travel relative to slower moving bodies, therefore the faster you travel the slower you age relative to others travelling slower than you, especially as you approach 'c' - the speed of light - you can never get younger unfortunately, and you still age at the same rate "internally" i.e. 1 second per second, it's just that at high velocities 1 second to you equates to many seconds/minutes/hours etc for others travelling at slower velocities (the ratio is dependent upon the delta between your relative velocities) .....Relativity and quantum physics are pet subjects of mine......
Suffice it to say: even Mihnea's car doesn't have the capability to approach 'c' so i'm afraid none of us will age slower relative to non-S4 drivers unfortunately - and in my case my life may even be foreshortened what with me having crap brakes!

Class answer, but good fun trying...................
One point, all your mates would get older right?

Yep - if you left earth for a year or so in a space-ship travelling at near c, when you returned you would find that all of your mates would be older than you! (even though you've only aged 1 year - they may have aged 10 for example, obviously dependent on how close to velocity c you had travelled at during your round trip - your velocity as a percentage of c relative to theirs is the factor that will dictate the actual age differential - the bigger the velocity difference the bigger the age gap)

Nice one guys all done now, and i have too say that even though i dont have VAG-COM the seat of your pants test carried out today was promising, although the temp has dropped away a bit now so this may help! but somehow it felt a bit less "laggy".Just wondering now wheather to put some extra holes in the base of the air box!! any thoughts?

I've got lots of 5mm holes that i drilled in the bottom of my airbox (in addition to the big triangular section cut out of the front side) but i put a fine wire mesh over them just to stop any big particles of crap being sucked through them from the engine bay/road (no mesh covering the front side big hole though) - works well for me!!!
P.S. one of the reasons for removing the MAF mesh is to reduce the pressure drop to the turbos which then decreases the turbo lag, that's probably why you feel it's less "laggy".....glad it works for you mate, it does for me too!

Yep - i got a k&n panel too. I put the mesh over the bottom holes just to stop big particles of sh!t collecting in the bottom of the box and to stop them sticking to the underside of the filter and reducing it's air flow capabilities - i've just cleaned and re-oiled my filter so the underside is a bit sticky at the moment.....

Yeh I have a flat panel air filter - when I changed to a standard - it did seem boggy and less responsive - but it was totaaaally fvcked anyway - plus the air filter ......
Look forward to trying the mesh removal addition ..... as I have a new flat wotnot to go in the airbox....... anticipating the return.......
Dont think I will be cutting me bonnet tho.....

Just a thought, had a look on my transporter T5 van today to see if that had a metal screen inside/near the MAF sensor and guess what NO!! just the plastic air flow staightener, so maybe the VAG group have decided in their infinite wisdom that it is'nt needed after all as the air filter should be removing any large particles.
It is a diesel though so maybe i am barking up the wrong tree!!

I spoke to Doug about this Phil - we both ended up thinking it must be a 'hangover' from the earlier type of MAF that had a screen at each end but no flow-straightener......i think it's just Audi being a bit "belt and braces"....

Does anyone know if the RS4 MAF has a screen in it, as my garage had a quick look last week when the changed the G62 sensor and they couldn't see one??
