TTS Supercharger development for RS4
Re: TTS Supercharger development for RS4
The supercharged RS4 is off the Nurburgring this weekend to see how it performs. The S5 has increased on mpg on sensible driving so we will see if we can drive it sensible to see if this perofrms better as well.

It's all about torque

It's about power for me

Re: TTS Supercharger development for RS4
I'd rather have 565/570ish/700nms over 600bhp and 600nms
hence why I asked the question about having a custom pulley made
. Are you buying a kit ads?

Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you...
No matter where you go, there you are.

Re: TTS Supercharger development for RS4
Thing is raw numbers are misleading - need to put it into context with an engine graph. 700nms at 1k rpm is terrible compared to 600nms at 8k. But again, depends what you want - some people prefer low down shove where as I prefer hanging on to gears.Dannyrs4 wrote:I'd rather have 565/570ish/700nms over 600bhp and 600nmshence why I asked the question about having a custom pulley made

As for buying one... Possiblly... Depends... See how the costs work out once it's all finished and I'll probably be hassling Doug for a demo.
The TTS suits my driving style and requirements - A rotrex charger is almost the same feeeling as driving a bigger N/A car so yes you lose the low down torque relative to other FI (which I'm not that fussed about really) but then you gain some nice power figures with the car higer up. When I'm husssling quickly I prefer having to work a bit harder by changing gear - dammit, I spent ages learning to heel n toe perfectly and I'm gonna do it!

Secondary factor is that under 3k rpm it shouldn't kill the mpg and as Doug has said with the S5 it may even improve.
Talking to doug about the differences with the S5 and RS4 version and the killer is the cams - to get power up at 8k rpm the rs4 has (like any other N/A high power car) a huge valve overlap... problem is thats the last thing you want with forced induction. Dunno if anybody makes cams for the RS4 that would be suitable.

Misquoted. Or only half a quote.
"Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you take the wall with you"
I also like:
"Aerodynamics is for people who can't build engines."
"Torque is for people who can't change gear"

Re: TTS Supercharger development for RS4
The whole quote was not required for relevance but as Mister Green rightly pointed out, it ain't mine.

Re: TTS Supercharger development for RS4
great to see this kit make its way onto the RS4. Looking forward to seeing some more testing.
Any chance of a launch video with a bunch of pulls vs. other cars? That'd be pretty fun to watch.

Re: TTS Supercharger development for RS4
Talking about mpg in the same sentence as an rs4 is bad, talking about mpg and a supercharged rs4 should be banned!!!!!! But for reference I could manage 26.5mpg on motorway driving when mines was supercharged. The argument about torque vs peak hp is all about preference I'd prefer a higher torque number than power, I've spent a fortune chasing numbers it's fun for a while. As for this kit in particular I've been in the s5 and it's rapid and I liked so much so I said if certain numbers can be made I'll take one
. My cars at Mrc just now waiting whilst I talk the options Over with Doug my problem is justifying putting more money into an ageing car and I quite like the idea of an rs3. This kit has spent ages in r and d so will most definitely be a corker

The thing is for me there's not a car at the moment that ticks all the boxes in terms of pace, practicality, style, noise etc.
Any new car would be a compromise and a <beep> load of depreciation.
The only one that is interesting to me would be the new v8 twin turbos but no confirmation that then new RS4 is getting these. If it ends up with a RS5 lump then no point changing really and might as well throw cash at the RS4.

+1
Even a TT-RS or RS3 would be a depreciating compromise.

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

I thought you had already done that.sonny wrote:+1adsgreen wrote:The thing is for me there's not a car at the moment that ticks all the boxes in terms of pace, practicality, style, noise etc.
