Could be the switch was broken when Installed - as te symptom of vein able to start the car without the clutch down suggests.
Worth checking the battery too - if it's marginal the activation of all the pumps and other prominent systems might drop the voltage below that what be enough for the starter solenoid to engage. Leave for a few mins and it might just revive what it needs.

I think it's multimeter time on the starter switch and clutch switches!
