RS 5 runs hotter than the B7

Mine put down 432PS

This seems to be a fix that Mercedes have produced for some models although its designed to burn carbon off the exhaust manifold in this case.

The tech loads a specific engine map that runs that car throughout a specific rev range building up to a extended high revving until the exhaust manifold glows. My brother said it was quite disconcerting the first time they did it but it seems to work very well.
I've seen this for turbo based unit (granted, not petrol) but didn't know if this was being done for NA engines.

The other alternative is to very carefully run the engine lean for a bit. Obviously need to be careful but it wouldn't take long to dramatically increase the cylinder temp to get the carbon off or even prevent it from sticking.

Need to consider other factors - for example, the original b7 rs4 would have euro IV in 2006 but current cars need to meet euro V... An easy way of reducing emissions is to simply increase the engine running temperature.
Downside is this reduces power...

What would be good is a dual temp control system so the engine runs hit for economy and emissions when just cruising but drops everything down when going for the power.

Just an update… I've been in contact with Terraclean and Jags at Performance Tuning UK (they're fairly local to me) and after reading through recent posts I am curious to see if it works so I've decided to have my car Terracleaned. They are planning to document the process with boroscope images so hopefully this will provide some actual tangible evidence. I am hoping that it works but like a few on here I'm sceptical. The proof is in the pudding as they say. ;-)

The work they’re undertaking is as follows:
Rolling Road test before the service
Emissions test before the service
Borescope with colour images before the service

Perform the Terraclean service (without using any other additives)

Rolling Road test after the service
Emissions test after the service
Borescope with colour images after the service

They intend on logging all the information to be able to upload it onto the forum for everyone to see.
Also they are very generously not charging a single penny for this work so thank you Jags

The bit about the boroscope... I thinking I'm getting deja vu here.

Didn't someone already try this but was unable to view the all important areas? I think the horoscope didn't flex beyond ninety degrees.

Yeah, you need a decent one with a "pointable" camera head. Either that or keep jamming it into your cylinder until it bends and points upwards (and makes a nice pattern on the cynlinder walls :)

Nah - you just need one that has a mirror attachment. Plenty out there that have a reverse view (say 150 degrees)

Yes sure no problem - will record on iPhone and play it back to accurately work out several avg time(s).

EDIT:
I have done one on the way back from a client and it worked out to be 7.91secs (taken from the iPhone video). I'll need to do some more to take an avg...

Well I've done another 3 of Arthurs test runs tonight (floored it at 2K) all very similar and all taken from the video file(s) by measuring the elapsed time between 3K-8K. The only difference was in ambient temperature 10C. Above (7.91) it was 12C....

#1 7.07 secs
#2 7.08 secs
#3 7.11 secs

Avg 7.08 secs

Is this any good? What's the norm?

Unless you're running a small supercharger, those 7.0 times are pretty incredible. Care to explain the method for making the times? Are you going to post the video soon?

It works well to just have the on board stopwatch running wihle you film the DIS+tachometer+speedometer. That way you can pause the video right at 3k, look at the time on the DIS stopwatch, then do the same at 8k.

As I said however 7.0 is not far off what APR supercharged cars run.
