It looks like one of mine is starting to go. The car is 4mths old, with 1500 miles on the clock and has only ever been washed by hand using proper wash stuff.

If I didn't know about this issue I probably wouldn't have noticed it because I wouldn't be inspecting the tips when cleaning, but now I know it's there I'll be requesting to get it(them) changed.

Yep it's still happening. I noticed it on mine a few weeks back but haven't had time or chance cause I've got a broken ankle to go to Audi yet. Mines a C7 and 4 months old and 3,500 miles. And too only ever been washed with all the good stuff.

No son I think you should stop driving my car. Haha
And you should clean it properly so my tips don't pit.

Just had mine replaced by audi on a 13 plate car @ 17/18k miles.
car went in for a buzzing noise in the passenger footwwell and mentioned it to the service team.
They came back with standard letter from Audi uk ie road salt and grime should have cleaned them more often. ...now go away.
Went through audi uk customer service and after a few phone exchanges with question like has the car always been serviced at audi and did you purchase it through a audi dealer....yes and no.

No .... well if you had then on handover the dealer would have gone through the cleaning of the tips ( yes I kid you not they actually said that) my reply was in that case why haven't audi supplied the right cleaning fluid and why is it not mentioned in the handbook......and buying a new car through a third party had no bearing on the warranty as it must have been made by audi at some point. .......
Then heard as crash as he had no more legs to stand on and said audi would warrent this claim.

Or it might had been I was talking to the sales guys about a new RS6 ......

Going forward if I was to purchase any new car with these tips then I would insist on a separate lifetime warranty on the black tips ( which the dealer at mk did say he could arrange if I was going the part with £90K plus ... wasn't that nice of him)

Black tips is you fund it yourself through the service department around £350.
RS6 Grey and Loud. :-)

Guys, when Audi replaced the exhaust tips, did they remove the bumper?

TIA

Audi never fail to amaze me when it comes to pricing. Those tips are a very mild steel that's pressed out and anodised with a lip and pierce on the rear for a fixing point - must cost £5max including tool amortisation
£350 is a joke even considering labour to fit
If I have the current set pit and Audi want me to pay, I'll take them off myself and get them painted with a heat proof black

Finally got my tips replaced but not without a large fight with Glasgow Audi. Due to issues previously with the "service" provided by them they said they would order in and replace the tips as a "good will" gesture  . Booked car in to have them fitted and also to have first service done at the same time. Got the call that car was ready and so went to collect it.
Service man ran through what was done on the service with no mention of exhaust tips and presented me with the bill and so I asked how it went with the exhaust tips?... "What about them?" Was the initial response, (bear in mind this was main reason for car being booked in). I said they were supposed to be changed to which the response was " eh? Nah, we don't change them we are just supposed to clean them" needless to say he may as well have taken a dump in my kettle at this point! I politely but angrily lost the plot at this point and got the manager involved and after 20 mins of explaining the situation and providing evidence of e mails etc they agreed they would change them this time but never again. I had to leave the car with them for another day for them to be changed but they did offer to drop it off at least.
I questioned why they would not change them should it happen again and they inferred it was down to incorrect maintenance and cleaning ( I'm a keen detailer by the way and have knowledge of materials and coatings through my work)
So rather than argue with them I called them on it and asked them for the specific cleaning and maintenance instructions for the tips.....surprise surprise there aren't any. In the end they said they have been instructed by Audi uk to use a special cleaning fluid on them instead of replacing them and so I asked them to supply me with this magical fluid and promised to use that to clean the tips in future. They reluctantly agreed and upon handing over the bottle ( it's basically a traffic film/fallout remover which is a lot harsher than anything I would use on them). I then asked what I am supposed to do should it happen again now that I am following the approved Audi regime of care and just got a worried look as a response....
The customer service is nothing short of disgusting but in the end got the trims changed as originally agreed, £20 off my service and the "approved" cleaning fluid.....I'll see how they fair this winter.....

I could have easily done that too Graeme, the point is we shouldn't have to! Especially on a car still within manufacturers warranty.
