I don't think anybody has said that on this occasion... however.gareth_oau wrote:I find a lot of people put new tyres on their car and then state how much better the grip is compared to the old tyre theyve just replaced - well of course it is dummies, thats the main reason you were replacing the old, worn out one!
make sure if you are listening to people's reviews of tyre performance, they are comparing apples with apples

I've been buying Vreds for a few years now on various cars, can't fault them for performance versus cost.

Re: Best tyres for RS4?
It seems that there's a fair amount of personal preference with tyres judging by what I've read on here. eg GSD3s - I had them on my ST220 and whilst I thought they looked great I absolutely hated the way they felt, no grip at all either wet or dry. They were so bad I changed them ages before I needed to. Was that down to the tyres, that particualar car or just my personal feeling? I don't know but I was never comfortable with them in the way that I was with the PS2s or SportContacts that I also had on that car. When I bought the RS4 it had nearly new SportContact3s on it and I've thought they were pretty good. But now I've done about 8k on them and there's still a fair bit of wear left on them but the performance has not just fallen off a cliff, its taken a running jump and leapt over with an anvil strapped to it. So much so that I don't know if I want to drive the rest of the winter on them. I was going to replace them with Vredesteins but now I'm not so sure as I was about that either.....

Tyres can be very car specific as well though Pete. When I had the GSD3's on my S3 and then S4 had a firend with them on his Clkio Williams and he too hated them, said they were awful for the car whcih I can concur having been in it but couldn't understand how they were so good on mine.
I had the same as you on SC3's on the RS4, that's what mine came with. But no issues with the F1 assymmetric or the Vredestein although the latter were found wanting on the Ring last year for ultimate grip but when on UK raods do you get anywhere near flinging an RS around like you would on the Ring?

Re: Best tyres for RS4?
I had a set of Vredestein Sessantas fitted a few weeks ago, one of them did take a lot of balancing, but once fitted (and the fitters shown how to clear the TPMS warning!) they've been good.
The feel is very different to the PS2s (great), F1s (good) and PZeros (ugh!) I've had before, it feels like thy have a much softer sidewall and can "walk" under extreme cornering but under the conditions you meet on UK roads the vast majority of the time they're a perfectly good tyre in my experience.
Yes they're cheaper than the PS2s and F1s so maybe the slightly soggier cornering in extremis is the price for the lower cost. I happy with them and if the budget is as tight next time I need tyres I'll fit them again, if not I'll try the SuperSports.

Last set lasted getting on for 20K, and they're especially good in the snow!

Re: Best tyres for RS4?
I'm tempted by the Goodyear F1 Eagle Asymmetric 2 tyres. My local ATS Euromaster Shop quited me £1030 fully fitted. Michelin Pilot Super Sports are £1230 fully fitted (for four).
However, I nearly fainted when I was advised that I still had 4mm left all round and that's plenty for quite a few more months so it's not worth changing tyres just yet. I've almost found the 'Audi Camberley' of the tyre world in my local ATS Shop - a reliable, professional and trustworthy outfit. So, it looks like i'll hold off until next Spring and I may be able to stretch to the Pilot Super Sports then.

Re: Best tyres for RS4?
I was fortunate enough to score some 275mm Goodyear Asymmetric 1s from tirerack for a runout bargain of only USD150/ea.
Had them fitted on Saturday, and they look brilliant.
Definitely don't look too wide for the rims or body and no evidence of rubbing at all
(the pics dont do justice)
