I think they just mean 2005 when it was launched, the German plate press car would have been a 2005 reg car, a lot of the international press events were in summer 2005Never seen an '05 RS4?

Coolness is directly improportional to success, the minute something becomes popular (usually because it is 'good') it is no longer cool, anyone with teenage daughters will recognise this phenomenom. The iPhone is the perfect example of a product that has now become naff, it marks the tipping point for when I decide to purchase!
here are all the times http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_To ... _Lap_Times
The Rs4 is almsot 2 seconds quicker than the Rs5, and 1 sec faster than the M3 with comp pack! Yes they were on moist tracks but that says a lot, I recon the Rs4 will beat a Rs5 around a track!
And the Rs4 beat Jermey's Gallardo spyder around the track!

True but is anything like Jezza's SL55, he would have told Collins to back off maximum attack in his Sypder.
Like you say thought, I would reckon RS4 and RS5 are on a par lap times wise. And think of all the mods you could do for the extra money an RS5 would cost over a new RS4. I specced one with all the options I currently have on my car and it cam up to IIRC £65K against the 55k list mine was and that is without pseccing the RS5 trick diff. That's £10k for mods which would cover full race exhaust, remap, sway bars, s/s brake lines and front ceramics. It would be way quicker and I still have a practical 5 door car.
It just doesn't add up.....

not sure that is a valid argument IMHO, most people don't want to mod / invalidate warranty etcP_G wrote:True but is anything like Jezza's SL55, he would have told Collins to back off maximum attack in his Sypder.

otherwise where do you draw the line, add £100k of turbos etc to an RS5 and it will match a £150k Aston, add 30k of turbos etc to a Mini and it will match an RS4
RS5 is the higher prestige coupe version of the A4, RS has a bit more power than RS4. If Audi had not apparently lost the plot on ride and handling that they so fleetingly gained with the RS4 and R8 it would be more desirable than RS4 (in my book at least)
It's entirely relevant but like you said YHO. I used a 'new' like for like comparison but in reality it is the option of comparing the RS5 to a used RS4, with some out of warranty anyway and what performance advatgae do you get over the same marque car. Worse against an R8 I suspect and don't even mention an RS5 vs. a GT-R.
RS5's as I see are marketed at A/S5 drivers wanting the ultimate, R8 drivers wanting more practicality, RS4 drivers looking for a newer car or other marques such as BMW M3, Lexus IS-F, C63, Porsche or Aston Martin. And it doesn't add up. That's not to say they'll sell the ones the build.
